(Y/N)-chan?" You heard your name from across the classroom. It sounded like a whisper, murmured under someone's breath. It wasn't until a couple of seconds later that you felt something soft hit the back of your head. There was a frustrated sigh and then silence, when you bent to pick up the paper that had landed under your chair. It landed with an almost silent thud, which was good considering the teacher you had was like a bat. She heard everything that happened within the classroom, every word that was whispered and every pencil that was slid across the table to help another student. It was a miracle she hadn't heard the paper hit the floor. You bent down slowly, making sure that nobody in the class was you. You didn't want anyone to see you passing notes. You were too shy to talk to many people in your class, and the last thing you wanted was to be made a fool of in front of everyone. The one person you did talk to was your best friend, Hajime Hinata. He was the only one who didn't mind your shy tendencies and your nervous disposition when it came to most things. If anything, he was the only reason you got up to come to school in the first place. You picked up the paper and carefully unfolded it, being extra cautious not to tear it as the thin material slowly flattened out in your hands.
There was a short message written on the paper, and it looked as though it had been written quickly so that nobody would notice the giver of the note writing anything down. It said 'meet me under the recycling flower in the garden at lunch'. The recycling flower, as it was known, was a huge flower in the middle of the school's indoor garden, and was being developed by one of the Super High School Level biologist a couple of years above you. It could eat anything it was given, cars, paper, tins, heck, it had even eaten a steel beam! It sure was amazing, the next big thing for sure. Another ball of paper hit you in the back of the head again. Whoever was trying to contact you was sending another note your way. You opened this one too, still surprised that the bat-eared teacher had not heard the soft tap of the paper as it hit the floor behind you. This one said 'scratch that, that thing could eat you. Meet me by the rose beds instead'. Whilst the other notes hadn't been signed, this one had.
Hinata
Hinata? What could he possibly want with you? He was your closest friend, so you two hung out a lot, but why would he want to meet you in such a private place? Whatever he had to tell you must have been important. So, you turned around to where he sat, a few seats back, and nodded your head sharply. You managed to turn back around before the teacher saw you. You carried out the rest of the lesson, not really listening to what the teacher had to say. All you could think about was what Hinata wanted with you, and why it had to be so secret.
Finally, lunch came. When you turned around to find him, so you could walk to the rose beds together, you found that he was gone. Your hands shook and a small bead of sweat raced down your spine. Where had he gone? Was this just all a prank? Wait, no, go to the rose beds and find out, you thought. You had to know for sure. So you set off through Hope's Peak Academy, up past the canteen to the steps to the second floor, back round the pool to the steps to the third floor, all the while being pushed around by students coming down the stairs rather than up. As you went up each of the five floors you noticed they were getting quieter and quieter as more people headed down to the bottom floor for lunch. Once you reached the fifth floor, nobody was up there. The occasional teacher maybe, but no students.
"Hinata-kun?" You called out, your quiet, small voice echoing down the empty halls towards the gardens. "Hinata-kun?" Still no response. In fact, there was no response until you hit the dojo, when you called out again. "Hinata-kun?"
"I'm in here!" His voice finally came, not from the gardens, but from the dojo. The door stood slightly ajar, allowing you to see inside. The cherry trees that had been planted in there shed a few petals every moment with the breeze coming in from somewhere, maybe the air conditioning vent. There were various weapons and training dummies lined up in various lockers along the sides of the room. And there, sat on a small bench underneath one of the cherry trees, was Hinata. He looked up and waved to you, beckoning you to come over there and join him.
"H-Hinata-kun," you stuttered. "W-what are you doing in here? You said we were going to meet in the garden..."
"They're running some sort of experiment on the recycling plant," he chuckled. "They wouldn't let me in." He patted the space next to him. "Come sit." You did as you were told and made your way across the room and sat on the space on the bench next to him. "Do you have any idea why I've brought you here?" He asked.
"Not a clue." You answered truthfully.
"I brought you here because.....because...." He paused, looking away from you and down at the ground, as if he didn't know what to say, or if he wanted to say it. "Because...." He still continued to pause, and the more he paused, the more you felt you knew why he had brought you there. He seemed to be giving himself a mental pep talk, like he had nothing to lose. Suddenly, he turned to look straight at you. "(Y/N)-chan. I've brought you here to confess. I've brought you here to tell you that I love you."
You stopped for a moment. Just stopped. Stopped moving, stopped breathing, stopped functioning. Your face turned a deep, deep shade pf crimson red. Did you think of him in that way? You weren't sure.
And yet you were.
"Y-You love me?" You stuttered when you managed to get yourself together at least a little.
"Yes. Yes I do." There was a silence that stretched between the two of you. You don't know how long it stretched on for. Moments, hours maybe? It stretched on until you finally broke the silence with the thing you had been most wanting to tell him for a while."Hinata-kun...I love you too." That was when the two of you shared your first kiss. Under the cherry trees in the dojo, where the petals fell lightly on the two of you from the breeze of the air conditioning vent above your heads, on the fifth floor where no students were hanging around. A complete secret was the red shade of your face and neck as his lips met yours.
A secret was the confession that took place in the dojo, away from everything, that lunchtime in July.
