Val's POV
I couldn't breath. Zoe had gotten stronger since our last sparing match when I was 130, but so had I and I wasn't about to lose. I kicked and squirmed to loosen her hold.
"This is the end!" She laughed
holding her sharp fingers to my neck. She sank her fingers into my neck then got off of me and turned to leave.
I laughed. She turned back and looked at me in horror. "How could you not know? I thought that you knew everything about your son. Like how I have wings like you, eyes like you, and I even have your power."
"What?" She hissed.
"It's actually funny." I smirk. It was as if my alter ego had taken over me.
Zoe looked irritated. Probably because I kept my powers hidden from everyone. "You rat!" She yelled and swiped at my chest. I backed away and She barely missed me.
"Nice try!" I said. I went into my modified version of a roundhouse kick which involved me squatting. I jump and kick at the same time sending Zoe over the edge of the building.
"Your a slow learner boy!" Zoe smirks.
"What?" I asked. There was a purple glowing light from under my feet. Yellow sparks formed and next thing I know I was being shocked inside out. I yelped out, and was on the floor before I knew what was happening.
"That circle under your feet is a curse. All the damage you inflict on me will do just as much damage to you." She smirked.
What was I going to do now? I had to think of something fast before she attacked. She kicked me in the gut and I flew backwards. That one hurt making me realize that This wasn't a normal sparing match, this was a real battle. Suddenly I heard a small voice in the back of my head.
Flashback
"Mommy! Mommy!" A small boy yelled running up to his mother.
"What is it child?" She asked sweetly.
"Let's fight!" He pumped his fists in the air and gave her a huge smile. She laughed, picked up her young boy, and held him in her arms.
"Why do you want to fight?" She asked him.
"So I can one day be strong enough to beat you!" He replayed.
"Ok then" She giggled. She set her child down. He ran to the other side of the room and stood in a fighting position. "I'll let you hit first." The boy started running and yelling. He jumped and raised his fist. His mom stepped to the side and he face planted and tumbled.
"Are you ok?" She asked. He complained then got up and laughed about it.
"I'm gonna beat you mom!" He yelled.
"I can't wait for that day, Val"
Flashback end
I flew at her and punched her. She caught my fist and laughed. "What happened to the loving mother who wouldn't let anything happen to me? huh! I'd really like to know." I yelled at her.
"I Never loved you boy!"
"I felt it when I was young then it slowly began to disappear. oh hold on I think I remember now. It was because of Lucinda wasn't it?" her expression changed from anger to rage.
"How dare you mention that witch in my presence!" she hissed punching me in the gut. I stumbled backwards. "now i'm going to finish you off once and for all, just like what I did to Lucinda!" she stood on the gravel and put one foot behind the other. She put her arms out and looked right at me. "Oh the light and darkness between Heaven and Hell, I call upon God of the flame Hephaestus lend me your mighty strength." her arms sparked then ignited into flames. "Firebird!" She yelled. My eyes widened. I remember that spell, it was the one she used to kill my mom on that night 2 years ago.
Flashback (2 years ago, Val is 16)
"Mom!" He ran through the forrest hearing his mom's scream from far in the distance. He pushed through low branches that were hanging from near by trees, he was so focused on getting to the grave yard that he didn't notice the tree root sticking out of the ground. He tripped over it then tumbled down the hill.
At the bottom of the hill he laid motionless. He thought about his mom and dad and how much trouble they are in, that gave him the motivation to get up and keep going. Within a matter of minuets he arrived at the graveyard. He saw his dad fighting his mom to protect his Step-mom.
"Mom! Dad!" he yelled out.
"Val!" his dad yelled and turned to him.
"Firebird!" yelled Zoe. His dad turned back to Zoe only to see a phoenix of fire rushing toward him. He closed his eyes and braced himself for impact, but he didn't feel a thing. He opened his eyes only to see his lovely wife falling to the ground. It took his dad a moment to realize what had happened, but when he did, he was devastated.
"Lucinda!" he yelled out. She hit the ground and looked up at her husband. She smiled and looked him in the eyes.
"I will always love you, James." those were her last words before she took her last breath.
"Mom!" the boy yelled running up to her.
"it's too late Val!" his father cried. "go get your siblings." his dad said. The boy ran off to go tell his siblings about their mom.
Flashback end
I froze, feeling more scared than I had ever felt in my life. My life was gonna end here just like my step-moms had ended to this same spell. I wasn't ready yet. there was so much more i needed to say before this day came but I had no time left. I stared strait ahead at the fire phoenix, awaiting my death. I heard someone call my name but I didn't recognize it. Suddenly I saw a body jump in front of the bird and take the hit. The body fell to the floor and I gasped when I saw it's face. "Tori!" I yelled as she fell to the ground.
And I gonna end it right there. I'm sorry it was a few days late but better late than never, right? I'm crying at the way I ended it but it had to end this way, don't hate me that much. I promise I wont make you wait that long for the next chapter, hope you enjoy -Kora
