Chapter 11

After everything was packed and loaded into the car, Amy and Blaine and my family gave me a hug. Kyle had a frown on his face; I knew he wasn’t all that glad about coming to Avery’s land with us but he came anyways because of me. I gave him a hug and a peck on the cheek. “Thank you for coming with me.” I said to him.

Kyle smiled and hugged me back. “Anything for my baby sister.” he said.

“Hey, it’s about time we get going if you’ve finished saying your goodbyes...” Avery said to us. We both nodded and followed Avery to the car. While me and Avery shared a car, the rest were in other cars. I sat in front, looking out the window as we drove away from the pack house. “Are you...angry at me?”

“Huh? Where did that come from?” I asked, facing him now.

He sighed. “I thought you would be angry since I practically forced you to come with me to my pack land.”

I shook my head profusely. “I wanted to come. You asked and I said yes. I’m not mad at you, Avery.”

“You could have stayed if you wanted, Kylie. I would’ve come back if you wanted to stay so just say the word if you want to stay and I’ll turn this car around and we’ll head back.” he said, reluctance clear in his voice.

The offer was tempting but I wanted to go with him, being separated from him would be all too painful for me. Even the thought of him not by my side freaked me out. I shook my head and kissed him on the cheek. “I want to come. I want to see your pack.” I said, determined.

Avery stared at me seriously and nodded, driving head on. All I had to worry about was if his pack would accept me and if they didn’t, what then? The thought made me nervous as we drove but I fell asleep shortly after.

The next thing that I saw when I opened my eyes was the sight of Avery driving a car and the outside was already dark. I sat up and stretched, rubbing my eyes. “Awake already, huh, sleeping beauty?” he teased me.

“Are we there yet?” I asked him, groggily.

HE smiled at me before saying, “Yep, you ready?”

I took a deep breath before looking him in the eyes and nodded. “As ready as I’ll probably ever be.” I said. “Do you think they’ll like me?”I tightened my hold of his hand as he helped me out of the car.

“Nervous?” he asked, draping his jacket over my shoulders. It was cold and windy outside. The ground was wet and slippery from the rain but the warm-looking cottage/mansion caught my attention. A lot of shifters assembled outdoors and I knew it was Avery’s pack.  My hold of him tightened again. Avery kissed me on the forehead and smiled. “You’ll be alright, love. They’ll love you.”

I smiled at him and took a deep breath before we walked towards the group of shifters. They saw Avery and welcomed him with open arms, congratulating him and everything. I saw a young boy staring at me and Avery and he was alone and he looked sad. I parted from Avery and approached the young boy.

“Hi, I’m Kylie... who might you be?” I asked softly.

“...Jayden...” he said, quietly.

“Why are you alone? Where’s your parents?”

“They’re gone...” Jayden said sadly. I could see the tears building up in his eyes and wiped a stray tear away from his cheek. He had the same eyes as Avery even though they looked nothing alike. He had platinum blonde hair whereas Avery had brown hair.
