Chapter 9

AVERY’S POV

I ran into the pack house and everyone ran towards me, trying to help Kylie. I couldn’t remember what they said; all I knew was that I had to get her to the pack doctor’s or to the hospital. She might have gotten shot and I knew it wasn’t a serious injury and she’d be cured but she was bleeding so much and her eyes refused to open.

The pack doctor tended to her in my room and it stunk of blood—her blood—and I stayed by her side after explaining the whole thing to everyone including my father. My father was furious and when Violet walked to me, I ignored her existence. All that mattered was Kylie—she was sleeping serenely on my bed. It seemed like eons ago that we were just about to start anew but with everything going on...it seems like fate just doesn’t want us together or was it the world telling me that this mating was never meant to be? No, if so I would not even love my angel after I abjured her.

The door creaked open and my head whipped around and I saw Addie coming in. I glared at her and growled. She would have woken Kylie up. Addie just rolled her eyes and cautiously walked in so as not waking my baby up. My attention turned back to Kylie. “Ave?” Addie called me. I groaned, not wanting to hear her say anything. “Don’t you groan at me, Avery.” she whispered/yelled at me.

“What do you want, Addie?” I asked her, my voice quiet.

She sighed and placed her hand on my shoulder. “You should take a nap and shower, Ave. You look really tired.” she commented.

I shook my head. “I’m fine...besides Kylie’s not awake yet...”I murmured.

Addie was persistent if not anything else. She wouldn’t take no for an answer. “Avery, go take a shower, change into some clean clothes that is not soaked in her own blood and take a small nap so when Kylie wakes up, she won’t have to worry about you. Do you honestly want  that? No. Now go.” she ordered.

I did as Addie said and walked into the bathroom and stripped off my clothes. Stepping into the hot shower and letting the warm water wash all my tensions away was the best thing Addie ever suggested. I could finally let myself think a little bit more clearly. I needed to make things up for my mate, that much was clear and I had the perfect plan.

KYLIE’S POV

The sound of someone’s soothing yet sexy voice woke me up. I knew it was Avery’s after the way his voice made me tingle. I opened my eyes and winced as I tried to sit up. Avery noticed and helped me. “Hey baby, how’re you feeling?” he asked me.

My throat felt dry and I took the glass of water on the bedside table and took a gulp before answering. “My shoulder hurts...” I told him. He sighed out of relief and lightly pecked my bandaged injury. I noticed that I was wearing a sleeveless, blue top with spaghetti straps and white boxers with blue and yellow polka-dots.

“Better?” he asked, smirking.

I blushed and nodded. Avery looked a little disheveled since his hair was messy and a little too sexy for my comfort. “How long was I asleep?”

“More than 12 hours. You made me so worried, Kylie. Don’t ever run from me! Promise me you won’t do that again.” he said.

I kissed his cheek. “I promise—wait!” I said, suddenly feeling my blood boiling all over again. I recalled all the events that happened right before I got shot by some damn hunter. “Why are you angry?! I’m the one that should be pissed! YOU kissed th-tha-that girl! YOU said you were going to break it off with HER!”

He nodded. “Kylie, let me explain. I never kissed her. Violet forced herself on me, I swear. You just appeared all of a sudden and you took off without hearing what I had to say. Trust me, Kylie. I would never cheat on you. I love you.” he said, sincerely.
