Chapter 8: Fighting in Down

I watched Star chatting away for a bit before sitting down. I saw Zach come in and just gawp in Star's general direction.

"Hey Zach."

He didn't answer. I waved my hand in his face.

"Hey, hands of buddy, Star's mine."

"I'm not looking at Star. I'm looking at the person next to her. Who is she?"

"I don't know, but Star went to find out. Oh look, here they come."

As they approached I had a sudden urge to kiss Star.

"Hey Marco, hey Zach."

Zach's jaw dropped. "H-h-h-hi," Zach stuttered.

"Hey Star, are you going to introduce us?"

"My bad. Both, this is Avery. She is a crime fighter with the power to control love. When fighting crime she goes by the name the Ship Master."

"Cool," I say. "Star, can I talk to you for a second." I beacon Star over to the corner of the room. "Listen. I think Zach has a bit of a crush on Avery. And as much as I love your bombastic behaviour, it isn't exactly perfect for Zach to get to know her. Could you be a dear and come with me so they can have some alone time?"

"Sure."

"Great." I direct my voice to Zach and Avery. "Me and star are going to see if we can find Mabel, Dipper and Stella."

Zach didn't move his vision from Stella. "Yeah cool whatever."

We left the room and headed for the cells.

We walked the corridor for a while before bumping into Stella with her arm around Dipper's shoulders. "Guess who I woke up with?" She looked at Dipper and gave him a small kiss. He laughed and then started blushing. "I guess you to woke up in the same cells?"

"Yeah."

"Well, lets head to the common room."

I put my hand out to stop her. "You might not want to do that."

"Why not?"

"Well, lets just say your big tough brother isn't as impervious to emotion as we thought."

"Don't tell me he...?"

"He did, he has a crush. A crush on this girl we just met. Her name is Avery. She is a crime fighter and goes by the name Ship Master. We left them to get to know each other better. Because, who knows, maybe she's the one."

"Well, what can we do."

"We can go find Mabel, we have know idea where she is."

Mabel walked up behind me. "What you saying about me?"

"Where were you, we couldn't find you on any of the traditional cells?"

"Well, I was lucky enough to be the only one to get a human guard, so I convinced him that I was his great great great great great great grandmother, and he let me stay in the deluxe cell."

"Ok," I say. "Well, I guess we have no more excuses we have to go back to the common room."

Mabel looked confused. "What's so bad about that?"

"Zach has a crush on a girl called Avery, and we left them alone to get to know each other better, but now we have to go back and ruin Zach's one chance of finding happiness."

"Well, you could tell me more about the Avery girl."

I told her everything, it took at least half an hour. When I had finished we decided that we had left them alone together to at least be friends. As we walked in we saw Zach making fire shapes with his nose and Avery laughing. "That is so cute," I say.

"Agh, guys your back, I didn't se you. I was just showing Avery my flaming ability."

Avery spoke. She had a smooth voice. It felt right to the ear. I could have listened for hours. "You must be Stella, Dipper and Mabel. I've already met Star and Marco." She shook all of us by the hand. "Well, seeing that you lot are here. I want to see if there are any empty spots in any of your rooms. I don't want to sleep on my own any more."

I looked at Marco, then at Zach. "Well, since Mabel left the common cells, there's a space in Zach's you can go there."

"Cool I'll go check it out."

Zach sprung up. "I'll show you the way." As he left with Avery, he mimed a thank you to me.
