Chapter 1 ~ Acceptance

"Riley! Come down to lunch, baby!" I heard my mother call over my singing. Damn. I was working on perfecting a song to send to a college, even though I've sent 4 college applications. I hustled down the stairs and went to sit down next to my little sister at the table. She was staring at the food, waiting to eat. I laughed at her stare. This made her look up and smile at me.

"Hey Arrya! You hungry?" I teased. She elbowed me.

"Starving!" She replied. Mom came to sit down and we prayed. As soon as we said 'Amen', Arrya was digging into her plate. It was like she hadn't eaten all day!

"Woah! Slow down! Nobody's gonna steal any food!" My mom said while laughing. We ate our food and talked about our day. School had just ended so we didn't have to worry about that. After we cleaned up, my mom took me aside and handed me an envelope. I opened it quickly and saw that I had gotten into California Institute of the Arts with a full scholarship! I squealed and went to go pack, considering I was planning on leaving this town asap! I packed and then went to search of places to rent in Cali. I found a nice and reasonably priced house just 3 blocks away from the school and instantly called the owner.

"Hello, This is Maria Stark speaking." A lady answered softly.

"Hi, My name is Riley Morin. I was searching for places to rent in California because I just got accepted into a college there and I was wondering if I could rent your little blue house in Valencia?"

"Oh sure! It is $450 a month and it's a very nice place. When will you want to be moving in?"

"Whenever I can! I'm so excited!"

"I bet! College is an exciting experience!"

"Could I come down next week and check out the place?" I asked hopefully.

"Sure! How about next Saturday?"

"Deal! I'll see you then Ms. Stark!"

"Please, call me Maria. Thank you so much Riley. I'll talk to you soon. Bye now."

"Bye!"

I hung up the phone and went to buy a plane ticket. This is going to be amazing!
