Chapter Five
As we pulled into the driveway, Mitch turned to stare at me.
“What?” I asked.
“Why are you doing all of this? I mean, I barely know you and you me; I’m a stranger. Why are you doing this for me? Not that I don’t appreciate it, I really do, but why?” he asked
“Why so serious all of a sudden?” I joked.
“I’m serious! I just want to know, and your parents are home, so I figured you had a story straight.”
“Wait, my parents are home? They’re a day early! Crap this is bad.”
“Yes I think it is. I mean, what kind of child would they think their precious daughter turned into if they found out that you’ve been hanging out with an extremely sexy Australian dude that just she just so happened to stumble upon at a bar?”
“Not helping.” I grimaced. It was now or never. I told Mitch to stay in the car. I had a plan.

“Mom, Dad, this is Michael.” Mitch was now currently dressed up in overly tight skinny jeans, and a deep pink v-neck shirt. His hair was gelled back, and instead of his one stud, he had on one giant hoop earring. In other words, he looked, well gay. Or at the very least, confused.
“Hello Michael,” my parents responded. They looked peeved. I had to save his fast.
“Hello it’s so nice to finally meet you! Scarlett has told me oh so much about you!” Mitch squealed. He gave a very hearty laugh and smiled a little too big. My parents were no longer mad, now they were scared. My plan was going perfectly.
“Look, mom, dad. Mitch-I mean Michael’s parents are out of town these couple of weeks and he needs a place to stay. He was very kind to me in school this year, so I offered our house. Is it alright with you guys?”
“Can we talk to you in the kitchen?” my dad asked through gritted teeth. I followed my parents into the kitchen, and Mitch sat down on the couch. To make his act believable, he crossed his legs and pulled out his phone and pretended to text other guys. I gave him a thumbs up and he winked.
“Scar, why would you invite him without asking us first?” my mom asked.
“Look mom. He gets teased at school. A lot. And I didn’t want him to stress about this. I wanted the transition for him to be totally easy. You see, his parents are getting divorced. And he thinks it’s because he’s gay. Now honestly, how can you say no to something like that?” I pleaded. My dad and mom seemed to think about it for a moment.
“Alright,” my dad said, “as long as he does a share of chores.”
“Yes! Thanks guys, you won’t regret it!”
