Chapter Six
“Okay, get in,” Mitch said.
“Dude, it’s my car! I think that I get to choose who drives.”
“Not today. This is my way of saying thank you. So, get in.”
I sighed. “Fine, but this better be good!” He chuckled and shook his head. His beautiful hair fell perfectly into his face. I felt my face get hot. He smirked when he saw my blush. Oh crap, did he notice? I hope he doesn’t think I like him, which I do, but I don’t want him to know! He might want to leave! Ah, look away child. Stop staring. Come on Scar just look-
“Like what you see?” he smirked. I looked him over and made a disgruntled face.
“Well, I don’t see much.” He threw his head back and laughed. His laugh made my heart flutter. I could swear I heard everything around us laugh with him. I flushed again. We finally pulled out of the driveway and headed towards wherever he was taking me. I wondered where we were going. It was February, so it was chilly outside, so we most likely aren’t going to the park… Fancy Dinner, maybe? Nah, too much, and he’s a guy. I wondered and wondered. Finally the car slowed down. IN THE MIDDLE OF THE HIGHWAY.
“Um, this is…great. Yeah, we’ll have lots of fun here!” I smiled, but it came out as a grimace.
“No, silly, we aren’t there yet. I want you to close your eyes. That’s why I stopped here.”
“Oh,” I said as my face flushed yet again. He chuckled and drove on. Let me just say, people give you weird looks when you are a passenger in a car with a hand over your face. It’s just awkward. I could just imagine all the strange looks I was getting whenever we stopped. Finally, I felt the far stop moving.
“We’re here!” he exclaimed. He ran out, and ran to my side of the car. I tried to take my hand off my face but he slapped it back.
“OW! What the heck was that for?”
“We aren’t there yet technically.” We made us walk for a bit. He was holding my hand, so I couldn’t help but pretend with myself that he was my boyfriend. I blushed from underneath my hand. I could hear people talking and laughing around us. I could hear different noises going off at different times. An occasional shout of “YES!!” Where the hecks are we?! Then I heard “ride for two?” coming from right next to me. I felt Mitch nod.
Then next thing I knew we were being led onto what felt like a moving bench. I heard the same man from before put down a bar into my lap. “Have a nice ride,” he said. I felt that bench move up and up and up. I started to feel anxious.
“Okay, open!” I saw that we were at the top of a Ferris wheel. My first instinct was to scream. When Mitch saw my expression, he looked hurt, then smirked.
“Scared?” he asked. I couldn’t shape my mouth to be able to make any words so I just looked at him with wide eyes and nodded. He chuckled and shook his head.
“W-what?” I asked.
“Nothing.”
“Wow, that’s specific. Now seriously, what’s wrong?”
“I just wanted to do something special for you, and well, I didn’t know you were afraid of heights.” He blushed as he said it and looked down. I hugged him tight.
“This is an amazing present. It’s always the thought that counts. Who knows? Maybe after a few rounds, a Ferris wheel will be my new favorite thing!” He smiled as I finished. All of a sudden, his phone rang, ruining the moment. He muttered something under his breath and pulled out his phone. Mitch looked shocked when he saw who was calling him. I shot him a confused look and he just shook his head. Weird, huh? I decided I’d pry later.
“H-Hello?” Pause. “Um, yeah, the tour is great.” Pause. “Yeah, Ben and I are fine.” Pause. “The noise? Oh, we’re about to go on.” Pause. “I know, mother. I will be home in time. Okay, bye.” I cocked my head to the side and looked at him funny.
“What?” he asked, feeling self-conscious and touched his hair.
“I thought you said you took care of your mom?” I raised an eyebrow and he gave me a sheepish smile.
“Well, about that…” I smacked my face with my hand. By now, we were nearing the bottom of the ride. I sighed in relief.
“Oh and also, what do you have to be home in time for?” I inquired. He looked scared for a moment, then collected himself and shrugged.
“Seriously, why?”
“There, um, is a wedding.”
“Really? That’s so nice! Who’s is it?” I asked my face lighting up. I absolutely LOVE weddings. They are so romantic and adorable. <3
“It’s, um, my mum’s friend’s.”
“That’s so nice! I thought it was going to be something bad,” I laughed. He gave a forced laugh. Now it was time to get off the ride. I ran off before Mitch could ask for another round.
“Let’s go on something else,” I asked smiling.
“You’re on, Scar,” he smirked.
