Unknown POV

You know that moments when your whole life crashes before your eyes and see the outline of every single objects. The rigidness of the rocks beneath my feet was like nothing to me. The tattered clothes I wore only sought to show the level of life that  I came from. I had come from a poor family where 6 of us slept on one bed. Not parents though. They had left us for the wolves to come and devour our flesh. I'm sure they thought we'd be dead by now but we were fueled to carry on and pushed to live. I'm broken in so many ways. I have never seen an inch of a smile ever touch the lips of my siblings. We were humans but we were strong. Strength was all I could use to explain  living in this atrocious life like impertinent wenches. We were nothing more than bottom feeders.

I crawled under the undergrowth to the den my siblings and I had dug out to live in. I looked around the place and all I saw were just the small bed that stood in the middle of the space, the dirty rug we had managed to steal from a couple, some plates were had made out of clay and put to dry, a pot, a couple spoons and a stove. I realized, however, my siblings were not here. I exited the area.

"Sarah!"

"Marley!"

"Vincent!"

"Ben!"

"Sam!"

Where the hell were they I was getting frantic now because they all knew the unspoken rule- No one leaves the den until I get back.

I was the eldest one in lot and I made the rules and went out to seek food for them. I looked around and started running through the forest. I heard a whimper to my left and saw a little familiar blonde hair girl.

"Sarah!" I ran to her and scooped her up. "Where are the others?" She lifted her tear streaked face to me and I felt my heart shatter to pieces as I looked in the direction of where she had pointed a finger. Large rocks were piled up in a corner near to the mountain side but what caught my eye was the blood running out from beneath the rocks. I looked back at her. I shut her a bit, "Where are the others, Sarah?"

"We were.... playing... but... we got too... close to the mountains.... it started to rumble a bit... but it always did that... so we ignored it... when the rocks came crashing down.... Vinc...ent... pushed me away... but he never got away.... The others were close to him..... and they got crushed...." She started crying. I set her down and she started wailing. I walked around to the pile and blood was everywhere I looked. I felt to my knees.

"Why didn't you guys just listen to me and stay inside?" Sarah  had walked close to me and I held her while we cried and mourned. I couldn't even give them a decent funeral cause I couldn't lift the rocks away. I looked to the skies and vowed I'd give Sarah the best I could.

2 years later

I'm finally 18 years old and Sarah's 13. We had made it all these years surviving and pushing. I couldn't give her a formal education but I stole some books and we studied and practiced together. I was finally old enough to have "legal custody" of her, as I had read in a book, so if I walked with her in public I wouldn't have to worry about her being taken from me. All we had was each other. I hugged her as we stood looking at the graves of our four siblings.

After the incident, we tried to move at least a few rocks a day in order to get their bodies. They deserved at least a decent enough burial. Finally we could dig the four graves and decently honor their memories.

I had stolen enough money to get me and my sister away from here to somewhere better, not the best but at least better than dirt. I took her hand as we walked away.

Presently

I had finally gotten a job and I'm sitting around the table listening to Sarah get animated over this guy she met and instantly fell in love with.

"I mean he's so gorgeous. If only you could have been there and..." she blushed," He called me pretty."

I had gotten up to wash the dishes left over from dinner and I paused in the action to look at her.

"I always tell you you're beautiful. Doesn't that count? Don't get giddy headed cause a guy said you're cute. I already told you.... Guys will tell you anything to get in your pants."

"Guys will tell you anything to get in your pants," she said with me.

I laughed.

" I know Jamie but I just.. wanna be normal for once," she sank back into the chair. I sighed. I walked over to her and pulled her up to hold her.

"I know honey but just don't put yourself in a position to get hurt. If a guy can't love you for who you truly are he'll never love you at all. Be yourself if he doesn't like it don't change cause you just may spoil yourself for your true love when he actually comes along."

The door bell rang. I let go of Sarah and went to answer it.

I opened the door and I saw the most beautiful girl.

She had an oval shaped flawless face. Her skin was olive smooth, her nose was a perfect shape slightly sloped upward. She had a natural beauty, the kind you get without make up; long lashes that even curled upward a bit. Her eyes were a light blue almost white blue and were so clear and looked as if they had a twinkle in them. Her eyebrows were a perfect arch shape. She had petite features. Her ears were even small, her face was small. She had perfect features like a models picture without all the garb of make up. Her natural beauty made you want to stare at all her features and wonder which one made her so outstandingly in beauty. Her smile made her look innocent and when she smiled and shone her pearly white teeth I couldn't do anything more than look on her beauty. Her hair was a strawberry blond with blonde highlights which had a lustre shine framing a perfect feature face.

There was just one word utter that had fully grabbed my attention.

"Mate," the word came out as a whisper from her lips.

Why was Destiny Milestone calling me her mate?
