We were watching the show as I heard the ringmaster announce the Flying Grayson's as the crowed begins to clap wildly. I've heard so much about them. I was never really into acrobats but I was honestly really excited. I sat and watched them fly through the air and catch on to each other and hang from each other's hands and legs.
After they were done the audience gave them a standing ovation. Well, they deserved it. They were amazing. Ed agreed. As I sat back down I could have sworn I saw Jerome in the corner of my eye. But when I turned to look, he wasn't there. Wow I just met the guy and I'm already obsessed and hallucinating. What's wrong with me?
After the show ended, Edward and I decided to stay for the side show. Lyla was amazing. I mean, imagine how hard it is to train a snake and dance with it on you. I'd be a nervous wreck. "Hello Amber. I said I'd see you later, is this too soon?" I hear the ginger boy ask from behind me. "It's not too soon, I'm just glad I got to see you before I left." I say quietly so my brother wouldn't hear, while quickly turning around to face him.
"You wanna get out of here, you know about me, let me know a little about you." He asked. "Yeah sure, hold on." I replied, wanting more alone time with him. "Ed I'll be right back, m-my foot fell asleep I'm going to go walk it off." I said giving him a lame excuse as to why I was leaving. "Ok, I'll go get us some snacks and drinks for the ride home, just don't take too long ok?" Ed asked. "Yes Eddie I won't be too long...and get me a large popcorn and a Coke, thanks!" I say as I turn to walk away, in search of Jerome. Thankfully I didn't have to search far before a pair of arms wrapped around my waist and pull me into a nearby woods.
"Long time no see. What took you so long? I've been waiting here for ages!" Jerome exclaimes over dramatically. I giggled, then blushed because honestly that was so embarrassing. "Oh my god Amber, your laugh is adorable." He said. "Shut up, so why exactly are we in the woods?" I asked with a chuckle. "Well, I wanted to get to know you better...privately." He replied "Not like, privately like tha-like yeah not in a weird wa-okay what am I even saying anymore?" He said quickly after realizing how he worded his last sentence. I giggled at the ginger. At first look you would think he was innocent, but for some reason I can tell deep down...he's not.
"No I get it Jerome, you meant like...in private not, sexually." I reassured him that I understood. He looked into my boring brown eyes with his deep green ones. He broke the silence as he broke the trance as he began to speak. (Wow. Lots of as he's...sorry) "So what about you." "What about me?" "What I mean is, I told you stuff about me. It wouldn't be fair if you left without me getting to know you Amber." Jerome replied with puppy dog eyes. Oh god...why does he have to do that.
"Ok ok fine I'll talk! Just...stop doing that." I say as I let out a little giggle. "YAY!!! You giggle a lot, you know that?" He asked. "Yeah I know it just...happens. Anyway you wanted to know about me right? Well, what do you wanna know Ginger?" I asked trying to hurry this up so Ed doesn't get worried. He may not seem like it, but he's extremely over-protective.
"Well...when's your birthday?"
"June 7th"
"Favorite color or colors?"
"Red and...hot pink"
"Where do you live? Not exact address just, town?"
"...Gotham" I replied a little hesitantly. Gotham isn't the best city to tell people. Just with all the dangerous "villains" we have. Like Oswald Cobblepot or Fish, and all the assassins like Victor Zsasz. There are even a bunch that aren't as familiar, like the ones that Jim Gordon deals with mostly.
"Gotham. You're from Gotham?" He asked sounding shocked.
"Yeah, yeah I am. Not everyone there is as bad as eveyone thi-" "That's amazing! I've heard so much about that place. The Circus is stopping there some time next month. I'm so excited!" Jerome replied with a huge smile.
"You shouldn't be." I said with a slight chuckle. "Even though it's not as bad as everyone thinks, it's still bad enough to not want to be there." I rolled my eyes. "Oh yeah, then how come it's not a ghost town? If it's as bad as you say, why wouldn't people move when they know they can get killed. Plus no ones safe anywhere...there's always someone waiting to pounce." He said with his voice going deeper then normal.
"Shit Jerome it's not that easy. First of all not everyone has enough money to leave. Plus the citizens of Gotham aren't so bright. So they think it won't happen to them until it either does, or it almost does." I told him. Sadly it's true. Ask anyone at the GCPD. It's a strange world out there.
I sighed before I heard shouting from the distance. "JEROME!!! WHERE THE FUCK ARE YOU! GET YOUR ASS BACK HERE NOW! IM SICK OF YOU ALWAYS LEAVING!" Wow ok, hello.
"Um, yeah sorry that was just my mom, I've got to go" he said sadly. "She sounds like a bitch oh my god!" I said not liking her already. "It's ok, that was nice." He replied sarcastically, rolling his eyes. "Alight well, I'd better get going before Ed comes looking for me." I said worried that he's worried about me. He's a worried wart, it's not his fault but it does get annoying. Why do you think I go to work with him everyday? Yes it's fun but, he doesn't trust me home alone.
"It's not that I don't trust you, it's everyone else I don't trust." He tells me. Yeah, ok Eddie. "Ed...who's Ed?" Jerome asked. "Oh, he's my brother. I live with him." I replied. "Oh. What about your parents?" "They um...they died when I was younger, in a really bad car accident." I told him remembering that day, my voice turning into a soft whisper. Soft enough for only Jerome could hear.
"Oh god Ambe's, I'm sorry." He replied with the new nickname and they voice filled with sorrow. "It's ok, I've gotten over it, it was like ten years ago. " I said smiling a little too end on a high note. "We should probably leave, before you mom and my brother kill us." I said sadly with a light chuckle, not wanting to leave him. "Yeah, ok. I'll see you soon right." Jerome replied with hope. " Yeah...I'll see you soon."
I honestly didn't want to leave him. He seems so kind and sweet with a hint of unknown danger. Plus I've always had a secret thing for gingers. I'm definitely seeing this kid again.
