Chapter

4

It had been a week since Cameron had the run in with Kayla, he almost forgot about the vampire that fed from him that night, unfortunately every time he saw his now scarred shoulder he would remember that there was real vampires out there, and he would remember Kayla especially, he couldn’t forget how he thought vampires were all fake and how he was proven wrong.

Cameron had changed throughout that week, he had started talking about vampires less and less as he couldn’t know the truth anymore, he seemed to be afraid to walk in the shadows all the time, he thought a vampire would attack him, feast on his blood and finish the job Kayla had started.

Tyler was surprised the most when Cameron stopped going to the graveyard at night with him to talk about legends and do their usual search, he didn’t feel safe anymore, he thought that if they returned together that Kayla would recognise him and attack them both, maybe even kill one of them.

“Cameron what gives?” Tyler grabbed his arm stopping Cameron from walking away, “You aren’t the same as you used to be, you used to love vampires, enjoyed hearing the news and going through graveyards to look into crypts for them, but ever since you saw Kayla, and she had a taste of your blood you have…. Well changed” Tyler hesitated, he thought maybe he shouldn’t ask Cameron in case it was something serious.

“I just don’t feel safe” Cameron turned to face Tyler. “I mean what if there were more vampires, which I’m sure there are, and that they would be more vicious, that instead of just taking blood they would kill us, and if we could get away before they had the chance, what if they would hunt us down?” Tyler had never thought of it that way before, he was still sure that vampires couldn’t be that bad, I mean Kayla spared Cameron right? Tyler thought to himself for a while before finally speaking.

“Not all vampires would be that bad, and I’m sure some are like Kayla, only drinking blood and not killing” He hit Cameron’s shoulder and laughed a bit, Cameron winced in pain, his shoulder still hurt, hitting it didn’t help at all. “Sorry Cam” Tyler apologised and Cameron scowled him, Tyler gulped thinking Cameron was really mad at him, it was only the worried expression on Tyler’s face that made Cameron brake out in laughter.

“I’m joking with you” Cameron chuckled, Tyler let out a sigh of relief.

“So how about it, one last time before you become a total chicken? Lets go to the graveyard one more time” Tyler insisted for Cameron to come. “Come on I won’t even ditch you this time” Tyler laughed.

Cameron had to think for a while; I don’t know he said several times in his head, he considered all the things that could go wrong, they could actually find a new vampire, a hungry vampire. Cameron shook his head clearing his thoughts.

“No, no, Tyler it’s not safe to and if you go alone something bad could happen, so just don’t, I’m not going and you shouldn’t either” Cameron answered and Tyler can tell from the tone in his voice that he really meant it.

“Fine then, don’t come, but that doesn’t mean I won’t” Tyler turned around and started walking away before stopping a few steps in front of Cameron. “You know, I thought we were best friends, and we would always be there for the other” he took a long pause. “Guess I was wrong” Tyler bolted away from Cameron running at full speed out the school doors. Cameron looked puzzled by what just happened, is that supposed to mean we’re not friends anymore? He thought to himself but answered his own question “No not possible, he wouldn’t end a friendship like that” Cameron laughed and walked out the doors, he was late enough as it was Victoria would be furious with him if he was late even for another minute.
