First hour dragged on for what seemed like forever in Lauren's opinion. She honestly can't stand anyone in her chemistry class but at least now she had film with her friends.

It's crazy how she already feels like she's known Ally, Dinah, Normani and Camila for years when it's only been one day. Well, she's seen them around school in past years and has maybe had a few classes with them but she never really got to know them or payed much attention to them for that matter.

That just proves that it doesn't matter how long you've known someone. A connection can be instantly made into an unbreakable bond. You could know someone for most of your life but not have that connection with them. It makes no sense, yet, all the sense in the world.

Now, Lauren sat with Ally and Normani in the back of the classroom while Dinah helped Camila get gum off her shoe in the bathroom.

On her way to film, she tripped and her gum she was chewing flew out of her mouth without her realizing. As soon as Dinah helped her up, Camila took one step and...yeah.

"How would I look with caramel highlights?" Normani asked, studying the ends of her hair.

"Like a girl with caramel highlights," Lauren shrugged.

"Don't be a smart ass, Lauren," the dark skinned girl rolled her eyes playfully and Lauren chuckled.

Normani and Lauren were sharing a laugh until they noticed Ally craning her neck to see outside the classroom door. Normani looked at Lauren with a raised eyebrow and the green eyed girl just shrugged.

"Ally? Whatcha lookin' at?" Lauren asked. The smaller girl ignored her.

"Ally," Normani snapped her fingers in front of her friend's face, snapping her out of it.

"Huh?"

"You're acting like you're hiding from the government or something," Lauren joked. Ally sighed.

"I'm looking for Troy. He texted me last night saying that he wanted to tell me something today in person and I think he's gonna ask me out," Ally squealed.

"Wait, how do you know?" Normani asked.

"I don't know for sure, I'm just hoping," the tiny girl shrugged as Dinah and Camila returned and took their seats with their group mates.

"Did you get the gum off your shoe?" Lauren asked.

"After lots of scrubbing and hydrogen peroxide from Dinah's purse...no," Camila sighed.

Lauren's head swung over to look at Dinah, "you carry hydrogen peroxide around in your purse?"

"In case of emergencies," Dinah tried to defend herself. "So what did we miss?" she changed the subject.

"Nothing. Ally may just be going insane, though," Lauren joked. Ally punched her arm playfully. Earning a questioning look from Dinah and Camila.

"It's nothing, just forget it," Ally waved them off.

"We should probably start discussing ideas for this film since we didn't get anything done last night," Camila laughed.

"Okay, well we can start by just answering the question 'what is the meaning of life?'," Ally said, the others nodded.

"So...what is the meaning of life?" Dinah thought. "Wait, imma Google it," she began tapping away at her phone before standing.

"Why are you standing?" Normani asked.

"Why are you talking?" Dinah countered and Normani shot her a look. "Okay, so according to Google the meaning of life is..." she scrolled more. "the meaning of life pertains to the significance of living or existence in general...what the hell does that mean?"

"It means that the meaning of life is basically to exist," Lauren stated.

"So then let's do a film on existence," Ally suggested.

"Yeah! We could have the main character be a girl who like..." Camila paused in thought.

"...exists?" Normani raised an eyebrow.

"Well, yeah but in a unique way like..." the brown eyed girl snapped her fingers trying to find the words. "Like she walks around painted in different shapes and colors. Representing all of us as people."

Lauren gasped, "yeah! We'd be showing that we exist, but we have to stick around long enough to know why we are existing. We'd also be showing that no matter your shape, size, or color, you can walk around and be something despite what society may put you in a position to believe."

The other girls just stared at Lauren and Camila with their jaws dropped.

"Raise your hand if you think Lauren and Mila should be in charge of this film," Dinah raised her hand, followed by Normani and Ally.

"How are y'all so smart? I can barely chew gum and walk at the same time," Normani joked, earning a laugh from the others.

"We should probably meet up this weekend to film this thing," Ally suggested.

"Yeah," Camila agreed. "Maybe Lauren and I could get together sometime this week to work on the script and then you guys can work on finding actors and equipment, yeah?"

Everyone nodded in agreement and began mindlessly scrolling and texting on their phones. Except for Camila, of course, who pulled out Animal Farm and continued reading.

A little over an hour later, Lauren sat in her visual arts class staring at a blank canvas. She stared intently at the paint brush in her hand and then back up at her canvas. Biting her lip, she dipped the brush in a bright pink and just started painting.

After a few moments of the same brush strokes, she stood up to go grab some more colors from the back cabinet. Returning to her seat with a handful of small paint containers and brushes of different sizes, Lauren slid onto her stool, accidentally bumping an open container of lavender paint and knocking it over.

"Shit," she cursed, looking down at her boots, which were now splattered with lavender.

"Mrs. B," Lauren raised her hand, "I'll be right back, I spilled paint all over my shoes."

Her teacher nodded in understanding and she rushed out of the room.

About twenty minutes later, Lauren had finally gotten the paint off her shoes. As she was exiting the restroom, the door flew open revealing a startled Kat whose hand flew up to her chest.

"Dammit, Lauren you scared the shit out of me," she laughed.

"Sorry," Lauren laughed. Kat glanced down at Lauren's shoes, which still were a bit of a mess, raising an eyebrow.

"I spilled a jar of paint," Lauren read her friend's mind. Kat just laughed and walked over to the sink as Lauren made her way out the door.

"Oh, wait Lauren!" Kat shouted. Lauren peaked her head back in the door.

"Yeah?"

"You're still singing at the auction next week, right?" she asked, drying her hands. Lauren nodded as she re-entered the bathroom.

Suddenly, she had an idea.

"Hey, Kat...do you think your dad would mind if I asked a friend to sing with me...?" she raised an eyebrow.

Kat shrugged, "as long as your friend can sing then my dad should be cool with it."

Lauren smirked and rushed out of the bathroom, back to art class.

She knew Camila could sing. She heard it herself, with her own ears. Other people had to hear it too. Now it was just a matter of convincing Camila to do it...
