It felt like time was going slow.

I began to slowly inch my way towards my parents. Their heart beats still sounding in my ears.

"Aiden." My mom said my name, but it was barely audible.

She said it again, more louder. Than she shook my shoulder.

"Aiden!" She said in my ear.

Suddenly I was back from the trance.

"Are you listening to me?" She asked.

I was confused. No longer could I hear the rhythmic sounds of their hearts beating.

"What?" I asked.

She sighed and put her hand on her forehead, "I've been calling your name for two minutes. You just kept staring at us."

"Sorry... I was... Thinking." I said.

She opened her mouth, probably to ask me what I was thinking about. I quickly looked at the clock on the wall and stopped her from saying anything, "Sorry, mom, dad, but I gotta go, Henry will be waiting for me." I said.

I made my way into the living room and grabbed my black backpack and slung it over my shoulder.

"See ya." I said and opened the door.

I heard them say bye before I closed the door. The sky was clouded over and small gusts of wind blew through the air.

I walked to the edge of the driveway, watching for Henry's car.

Suddenly a vision of last night flashed in my mind. The mysterious black man who fed me his blood. Why did he do that? And why did he say I would make a good assistant? All these questions that I needed answers for. Also, I needed to know how I came back from the dead. Surely I died, right? Why was I perfectly fine after I got hit by that car? I needed to know.

The vision left and I could see Henry's car turn down my street.

He stopped at the side of the road across from my house. I walked over to the car.

I opened the passenger door and hopped in, "Hey." I said.

"Hey." He replied.

"What happened last night?" He asked as he drove past my neighbours houses.

"I got hit by a car." I said casually.

He almost drove through someone's yard.

He collected himself and continued to drive, "What the hell? Are you serious?" He asked.

"Nah, I'm kidding." I laughed.

He sighed, "Oh, you had me for a second there." He started to laugh.

"But no, what really happened? You just disappeared." He said.

I was looking out the window at the passing quiet stores in town.

"I went home early." I lied.

"What happened with Grace?" He questioned.

"Um, we were dancing and I stepped on her foot. Then she got all upset." I said.

"That's it? You just stepped on her foot and she got upset? God that girl's such a diva." He laughed.

I laughed along with him, now thinking of how stupid that was.

We arrived at the school and parked in our usual spot. I got out of the car and grabbed my backpack.

We walked towards the school together.

"Are you feeling okay?" Henry asked.

"What?" I was confused.

"Well, you look really pale. Are you sick?" He said.

Three guys on skateboards passed us. We watched them until they reached the front doors of the school.

"I feel fine. I've just got a bit of a headache." I said. Which was true. The headache developed in the car. It might have been because I was hungry, although I couldn't eat anything.

We arrived at the front doors of the school and entered the building.

Kids were running and screaming all around us. It's like this everyday, but today I just felt overwhelmed.

Henry and I made our way through the crowd of people to our locker when I stopped in my tracks.
