Elena POV
I was so close to Steve, only a few inches away. I could smell his cologne and I was in heaven. He was just so manly. Everything about him screamed "I'm a big, strong man." and it was the truth. Steve was a big, strong man. But, he was also gentle and kind. He still held onto my chin as he closed his eyes and began to lean foward. I found myself leaning in as well as I shut my eyes, waiting for our lips to meet.
Our lips barely met and in that millisecond I felt the cliche "fireworks". By the next milisecond, I found myself soaring throught the air as the sound of an explosion met my ears.
I landed with a hard thud about twenty feet away from the blanket, Steve landing no too far from me.
"Elena!" Steve cried as he got up quickly and ran to me. He picked me up bridal style and began to run back to our apartment.
"Steve, what are you doing?!" I yelled at him as he burst through the door of our apartment and ran to the bathroom. Why the bathroom? Oh right, no windows. He places me in the little closet where the toilet is. Gross.
"Stay here," said Steve as he looked seriously into my eyes, "Do not leave this closet under any circumstances. I'll come back to get you." He cupped my cheek and looked at me with an expression of pain before he turned around to leave.
"Wait!" He turned around quickly as he heard my voice. I reached up to grab his head and smashed my lips to his. Steve immediately wrapped his arms around my waist and lifted me up, so he wouldn't have to bend down. Our lips moved together in harmony as I ran my fingers through his hair. His lips were so soft and . . . kissable. He tasted like apples and cinnamon, a mouth watering combination. I couldn't get enough of him, I thought to myself as I pushed my body closer to his. Steve only held me tighter. I heard another explosion go off nearer to our apartment, the building shaking slightly. Steve reluctantly pulled away from the kiss and I whimpered.
"Be safe," I whisperd to him as I lightly pressed my lips to his again. Steve looks at me again with the same pained expression and nods. He puts me down and kisses me one more time before he runs out and locks the door behind him. I slump down against the wall and bring my knees to my chest, wrapping my arms tightly around them so I won't fall apart. I begin to cry silently when a thought hits me.
What the hell am I doing? I'm a trained SHIELD agent. A really good agent at that. Why am I sitting here, crying like a damsel in distress? I should be out there, helping Steve fight. It was still unknown to me what was attacking us, but I planned on finding out.
I immediately get up and unlock the door, bursting out of the bathroom and running into my bedroom. I open my closet and grab my suit. I quickly slip it on and run to Steve's room. I drop down onto my knees and reach for the weapons underneeth his bed. He insisted on them being in his room, so I wouldn't hurt myself. Ha, yeah right. I grabbed all my weapons and ran to the front of the apartment, bursting through the front door as I put in my earpiece.
"Fury!" I yelled into the earpiece as I ran towards the bright glow of the lit fires.
"Agent Aldo, are you alright?" He responded.
"Yes, but what about Captain Rogers? Who's attacking, sir?"
"Captain Rogers is fighting off men from the Russian terrorist group, Kytrae." Oh crap, I thought to myself. SHIELD had dealt with Kytrae before, and it didn't end pretty.
"I'm almost at the scene. ETA 2 minutes." I responded as I pumped my legs faster and got closer to the action. I made it to the spot and I couldn't believe my eyes. Buildings were up in flames, illuminating the night sky. Cars were overturned, windows shattered and dead soldiers littered the ground. Thankfully, none wore a suit made of white, red, and blue.
