A Sonnet

I am awaiting your arrival dear

The moon of my life, my sun and my stars

Life has no meaning when you are not here

Sometimes I feel like you left me for Mars

I'm staring at the cracks in the sidewalk,

Thinking of the peeling paint on our house.

Staring at rain drops, erasing our chalk.

Thinking of the creak in the front porch step.

Then I see a silhouette; is it you?

I stand and peer through my old broken eyes

I smile until my face could fall off

You see me! Your face lights up like the sun

I see your shoes move faster, your feet fly.

We grin, but then you trip in a sinkhole.
