A Father's Nightmare

Meet Lauren

You know when there are those mornings and you just want to get up and go. Hi, my name is Lauren Williams-McGarrett and I love to get up early in the morning and run. I'm 16 years old and my Danno always tells me that I am just like my dad. Oh yeah by the way , my dads are the heads of the 5-0 Task Force in Hawaii. I know, cool right? So anyway enough about me, let's get on with the story.

It was 5 o'clock when my alarm went off. I got out of bed and changed for my run. I grabbed a water bottle from the fridge and ran out the door. I usually get up before dad. My dad usually gets up around 6 and then goes for a swim. Sometimes though, on a rare occasion, He'll get up with me and we'll go running together. Unfortunately, today wasn't one of those days. He probably wanted to stay in bed with Danno.
I ran six miles, and went back to the house. When I walked into the kitchen, dad was standing there, wet from his swim, waiting for me.
"Morning Laur." He said.
I went up and kissed him on the cheek.
"Morning Dad!" I said cheerfully. He handed me a cup of coffee. I sighed aloud as I took in the scent of the beverage that kept me functioning throughout the day. He opened the door and we walked out onto the lanai. We sat down at the table and looked at the rising sun. Now I know what you are thinking, shouldn't a 16 year old kid be at school right now. Well, yes, but it's summer right now so, no.
"So, how many miles did you do today?" He asked.
I grinned excitedly, "6!!"
"Wow!! Great job! That's two more than yesterday!"
"I woke up feeling like I could take on the world."
"Hear that Danno! Our baby girl is going to be the finest detective in Hawaii with a spirit like that." He said as Danno walked out onto the lanai, coffee in hand.
"Oh, do I believe it!" He said placing a kiss to the top of my head, "Good Morning Sweetheart..."
"Good Morning Danno." I said smiling at him.
"What are your plans for today, Laur?" Dad asked.
"I'm not sure just yet. I think I may go surfing at some point this morning with some friends." I said.
"Sounds like fun. I'm going to go take a shower. Then we'll see how the morning goes from there. " He said. He took the stairs two at a time and headed into the bathroom, closing the door.
"I am going to go change into my suit and head out to the beach." I said to Danno. I hugged him and ran up the stairs to my room.
