A Day in the Life of a Student

I've always been known as the reading queen,

When it comes to that, I'm the ruling teen!

Alas, last year, my efforts were for naught,

For a young novice had come to take my spot!

No! That couldn't be!

One simply couldn't be better than me,

'Cause when it comes to novels, short or long,

That's my territory, and I'm never wrong!

Behold! A treacherous plot!

My Word, the young novice is cheating, I thought.

I felt horror and disgust, for that couldn't work,

I felt sure I was about to go berserk!

I  spent hour after hour reading books,

While the novice was busy being a crook!

The sneaky rat found a way,

To win the battle, yay or nay?

Thanks to her tricks, the novice won,

But not this year, especially since I've been shunned!

This summer, I've spent my time preparing for war,

This time, you won't make it that far!

Cheers! I'm winning the battle by a mile!

But wait! The young novice came up to me with a sly smile,

And told me that she had enlisted the help of the knight of the eighth,

And I would never win, so I should just give up my faith.

Me, being a stubborn old mule,

Refused, saying, "Why should I? Ha! You'll still be schooled!"

The young novice departed in a huff,

That didn't bother me, I'm extremely tough.

On and on the battle raged,

On and on the novice became enraged.

For two bitter months, I was in the lead,

But then something happened, I dropped my speed.

For a tense week my defenses were low,

I did everything I could to mess up her flow.

I gave her distractions, I showed her Wattpad,

While it seemed to work, I was still behind by a tad.

My reign will not end like this! I thought.

I decided to give winning a final shot.

I sought the fair-haired blue-eyed gal,

And asked her, "Please help me! Come be a pal!"

So now, it's two against two,

As for the winner, I'm not sure who

Will win the title of Queen of the Books,

I surely deserve it, let me off the hook!

When shall this battle ever end?

Perhaps our battle is just a trend.

But just for now, I suppose,

This story has come to a close.
