Katie's POV
The ride was pretty silent, except for the occasional grunt from Shane, or small content hum from Glenn.I try to keep myself occupied by counting passing geeks, or braiding and unbraiding my hair.
Eventually the jeep pulls onto a skinny dirt road and I can instantly feel my heart race picking up.
I'm starting to get really nervous, so many things could go wrong.
What if these people don't want me here? What if I'm not accepted? What if I find someone from my old group?
We come to a stop and they both get out. I stay in the jeep for about two minutes before a man in a sheriffs uniform, Shane, and Glenn come up to me.
Shane opens the door and yanks me out by my arm.
"Rick Grimes." The man puts his hand out for me to shake.
I shake his hand, "kit."
He gives me a welcoming smile, "welcome to the group kit."
I give him a weak smile and nod my head once.
We all stood there awkwardly until Glenn spoke up.
"Want me to show you to the tent that you'll be staying in? Then you can meet everyone else and have dinner." He offered, I nodded my head grateful that he got me out of that situation.
On our way there we walked by two people.
We walked over to a skinny woman with beautiful dark brown hair, and a little boy with adorable freckles and a giddy smile.
"This is Lori and Carl. They're ricks wife and son." Glenn explains to me.
I gave them a small wave and they both return it.
We both walk up to a little light red colored tent.
"It's actually my tent, but no one else has room. The only other place is the Dixons tent, but we don't want to torture you yet." Glenn winks and unzips the tent and then we walk in.
It's very tidy in here, a neat pile of folded clothes, along with a neat pile of unkept laundry. There's a green sleeping bag unrolled to one corner, and a rolled up blue sleeping bag next to it.
A small lantern is set next to the unrolled sleeping bag along with a flashlight, a knife, and a book.
"You don't mind sleeping in here right? I'm sure of you want I could make room in the RV for you." Glenn rambles as he looks at me with a worried look.
I shake my head, "I don't mind. By the way you talked about the Dixons this sounds great." A gave a small chuckle at the end that Glenn returned.
He picked up the blue sleeping bag and unrolled it on the opposite end of the tent that his is on.
I set my black backpack down on it and sighed.
"You okay?" He asked me, picking up a jacket and shrugging it on.
"Yeah.. It's just.. Never mind." I mumbled.
He tilts his head at me, like a lost puppy would.
"You don't has to hide stuff from me kit." He told me.
I nodded my head and sighed again, "I just, haven't slept on anything that wasn't a counter or the bare ground in a while." I confessed, rubbing my arm awkwardly.
He gave me a cheesy smile, "well get used to it, you're one of us now."
I smiled at that thought. I belonged somewhere now, I belonged to a group that didn't want to abuse me or anything.
"Want to go meet everyone else?" He offered.
"Sure." I whispered.
He stepped out first, then me.
The air whistled by my face, causing me to give out a small shiver.
I easily hid it though, I got pretty good at that with my last group.
"Everyone, this is Kit." Glenn introduced me.
"Kit, this is Carol, her husband Ed, and their daughter Sophia." I smile at them all until Ed gave me a once over.
I looked away from them and cleared my throat softly.
"That's Morales, his wife, and his two kids." They waved at me and I just smiled back.
"The man on the RV is dale, he's the peace keeper. Those two girls are Andrea and her sister Amy." He pointed to two beautiful blondes sitting on a broken log together.
Just as I was about to wave at them, a muscular looking man stormed up and place himself on a log, opposite to the girls.
He gave me a dirty look that caused me to instinctively move closer to Glenn in fear.
"That's Daryl Dixon." He whispered to me.
I nodded curtly then sat next to Glenn on a different log.
Amy handed me a plate of mystery meat, I looked at it for a moment before deciding to take a small bite.
"It's just squirrel." Glenn told me.
I haven't had meat in about three weeks, so the flavors exploded in my mouth.
It was delicious, the intoxicating flavor made me want to jump with happiness.
But instead, I smiled and ate the rest.
I didn't eat it too fast so try didn't think I was a pig, but I ate it quick enough so they knew I enjoyed it.
We all sat there for about another ten minutes, just chatting about anything before rick spoke up, "we should all head in, seen as we're going to be ok our way to the CDC tomorrow, everyone get some rest and we'll be ok the road right after breakfast."
I looked at Glenn confused and he only nodded at me.
Everyone scattered, including Glenn and I.
I stepped into the tent and yawned, I didn't realize how tired I was until right now.
We both laid down on our designated sleeping bags and he turned off the lantern.
I closed my eyes and started to think about what life would be like if none of this happened.
"Hey kit?" Glenn voiced.
"Yeah Glenn?" I replied, sleep heavy in my voice.
"I'm glad we brought you back with us." He said just above a whisper.
"I'm glad too. And very thankful for it." I responded.
There was a lingering silence after that.
"Goodnight Kit."
"Goodnight Glenn."
