~Domo pov~
The wind ran through my long black hair, as I turned the wheel ever so slightly. Today was like any other day, only the crew of this godforesaken ship was acting crazier than normal. I am Domo Arigato- Sailing Master aboard the Black Dragon- my Captain's beauty.
"Alright, Ye Swabs need to get to work!" I heard our Boatswain, Karstiela Colombia yell. The crew jumped back in fear, and I giggled at the sight. "Ah, Karstiela, you always have a way with yer words" I winked as she walked up the steps. She smiled and waved me off, as her brown eyes gazed up at the sails, to make sure they were in place.
As I steered the beauty in the direction of east, I looked down at the main deck to look at the crew. To the right, The Master Gunner, Solice Yagami was yelling at our Powder monkey, a young boy named Davie. She was in charge of the whole gun and Cannon supply, and he evidentially hadn't brung any gunpowder. Toward the left, but more in the middle was our surgeon, Angelique Smith, and carpenter, Terry Synch. From what I could hear, they were arguing about the food supply- which, may I add-has nothing to do with their jobs... Toward the back, a sailor nicknamed 'Kiwi', our first mate, Jane Turner, and Rigger, Daniela Yorkshire were walking down to below deck- probably to go see if they could fire a cannon for the hell of it. And scattered about, were the lowly crew like the second mate, Meredith. She was probably cooking-lord knows that Scottish wench can cook! Then our mate, Caliber, who was running to and fro looking for something to do. We had caught him on one of our previous voyages-much like a number of souls on our crew. Then there was Tim, our Able Bodied Sailor. He was using a compass and some wind instrument to measure the weather.
Below deck, I'm sure was the cabin boy, William. The Twin Swabs were swabbing the deck. Their names were Jake and Jack they had been-
"WHAT THE BLOODY HELL??!!?"
...Aaand that's our captain. She burst from her captain's quarters, henchman, Jareth soul on her left, and Quarter Master, Daniel Reins on her right. Our captain was a horrid beauty to look at, much like her ship. She had short, half brown hair that faded to a blonde. Crossing over her right eye- was a scar that ran from the beginning of her eyebrow down to the corner of her lip. This caused her normally piercing green eyes to have a mismatched all grey- blind one. I was there to witness that injury-as she was mine, two large rings were burned into my skin. She was short- but so was her temper. She always wore a scowl upon her face, but only few in the crew could make the lass smile.
This is Captain Kahtarina (Kat-uh-ree-nuh) Morgan. Or better yet, Captain Kat.
"I need every scurvy asshole aboard the Black Dragon to line up! Boatswain! Drop the anchor!" The Captain yelled.
Karstiela ran to the anchor holder and threw it on a rock bed, as I walked down the steps, to the main deck. Everyone from below deck ran up from the other stairs. Some had food in their mouths, and some were covered in a black layer of soot. We all got in a line against the backing of the ship. Everyone including the henchman and Quarter Master were lined up, and had fear in their eyes. Everyone but me.
I've known the Captain for over twenty years. We were good friends when we were girls. I know how she is- acts all angry and hates everyone, but deep down, she's the sweetest lass I know. She's always been like that- no one understood except me.
Right now, she may have seemed very angry at the crew- but what I saw was disappointment in Kahtarina's eyes.
She walked slowly as she spoke. "So- why are Ye all not doin' yer jobs? Sittin' in my quarters, I hear screamin' left and right. Why!? Are Ye havin' fun, or somethin'? Because if Ye are-" she stopped and faced the person she stopped in front of- which was Poor Caliber.
"-I'll make sure that DOESN'T happen again!"
She backed up so the whole crew could see her.
"Savvy?" She said, as she swayed about. She needed to stop with the rum...
"AYE!" The crew squeaked.
"Goooood.... Now, GET TA WORK!" She smiled mischievously.
The crew jumped and ran to their normal station. I stayed behind.
"Oi! Lass, what're ye doin'??" She scowled at me. I grinned. "Ma'am?" Her expression tightened. "Damn you! Domo Arigato, report to me quarters immediately!"
I could see her slight smirk as I followed her, Jareth, and Daniel.
When we got to the quarters, she told Daniel and Jareth to leave us be. She began to smile. "Ah, Domo, I almost couldn't hold in me smile!" She giggled. I smiled back. " Well, Kat if ye weren't such a hardass- maybe ye wouldn't have to!"
She smiled and held up a bottle of rum we got from England before we departed last week. "Rum?" I nodded and she got a stained glass from behind her wooden desk. she poured it full, and took a swig from the bottle herself. "How drunk are Ye plannin' to get, Captain?" I asked, as I took a drink from my glass. She smiled. "Do Ye remember me uncle, Jack?" "Aye..." "Worse than 'im!!" She cackled. I laughed along with her.
I remember in our childhood, we met when I was 6 years of age, and she was 5 in England. Her mother hated her seeing me. I think it was because of the color of my skin. There are many-a-color that has been and some are on this crew. But, as a child I was frowned upon. It's only 1738, and the only way I could not get sent to America from Haiti was to board the Black Dragon 8 years ago. At the time I was only 18, and I had no clue that Kat was on the ship as well. We had seperated when I was age 12 because I sailed to Haiti to go back to my family. When I saw her, my eyes light up, and I ran to her. She stopped her normal scowl and hugged me.
She smiled.
The way the Black Dragon became hers- she stole it. With my help, of course. She was taken hostage the day before I boarded, and had hatred for the crew. When we overtook the Black Dragon, it was me, Kat, Karstiela, Solice, and a few others that aren't important now. We also had one of the captors on our side- Sir Daniel Reins. Yea, the Quarter Master wasn't always a good guy, and to be honest, neither was our captain.**Authors note: I hope you enjoyed the first chapter of my FIRST "book"!
