The bright white lights of the stage flashed off of the young girl's eyes. Her pink ears folded downward as she tried to shield her eyes from the multitude of lights that seemed to shine from every which way. Her crisp blue eyes narrowed and she clenched her script in her hand.
Her eyes adjusted to the light and she lowered her arm slowly, resting it at her side. She looked out to the seats beneath her, each one taken up by students in her theater class. Their eyes seemed to pierce into her, impaling her with fear.
She gulped down a bit of her nervousness and looked down at the script. "Romeo and Juliet" it read. A classic tale of forbidden love. Her checks turned red as she stuttered out her lines.
"Two households......both alike in....dignity." She muttered out.
Someone screamed from the audience of her classmates, "Louder! We can't hear you!" A few faint laughters could be heard along with scattered giggles from prissy girls.
Tears welled up in her eyes and she sniffled. She rose her arms to try and wipe away her tears, but to no avail. Her knees locked and she lowered her head. She backed up slowly, like a stray cat cornered by demonic kids. She pivoted her heels and scampered off the stage, trying to hide her sobs from the rest of the theater class. A few students back stage looked at her in confusion as she breezed past, but they shrugged and waited for their turn to play their parts.
Behind the stairs leading to her class, the petite girl curled into a ball clenched her fists as she rocked slowly back and forth. Her Neko ears folded in defeat, she looked up at the sky, as if wishing there was someone to hear her pleads.
"Why did Mrs. Dubonnete think I could do this? I can't deal with all of their eyes.......their.....impaling....eyes." She began to tear up a bit as she finished her plea. The screech of the bell snapped her out of her self-loathing. She wiped the tears from her eyes and patted her face a bit to reduce the sickly red around her eyes. She picked up her messenger bag, stood up with a bit more confidence, and paced down the hallway toward her next class.
