Major Events
The Mushroom War (usually referred to as the Great Mushroom War) is the cause of the post-apocalyptic condition of the Land of Ooo. Not much is known about the war at the moment, but the inclusion of "mushroom" in the title is probably referring to the mushroom shaped explosion generated by atomic weapons. If so, then it is likely that the Land of Ooo and the creatures who inhabit it were created from the nuclear fallout that irradiated the land. The Mushroom War is most likely started by mankind being at war with one another, but on a nuclear scale (such as during the Cold War or the end of WWII).
The Rainicorn-Dog Wars refers to a war (or series of wars) between dogsand Rainicorns. In "Her Parents," Jake explains that it was a conflict over territory in the Crystal Dimension that lasted for thousands of years. It occurred recently enough for Bob Rainicorn to have fought in it. Based on Jake's drawing of the war and the photo of Bob Rainicorn with a dog who saved his life, it seems that flying saucers were a part of it and the dogs used laser guns.It is unknown which side, if any, was the ultimate victor of the war

Setting:
The Land of Ooo is the main setting of Adventure Time, and is the home continent of Finn and Jake, along with all of their friends and foes. It is divided into many different kingdoms, of which the most prominent are theIce Kingdom, Candy Kingdom, Wildberry Kingdom, Lumpy Space, Fire Kingdom, and Cloud Kingdom. There are also many geographical areas not known to be part of any kingdom, such as the Evil Forest and the Bad Lands.
The Candy Kingdom is a kingdom that was made and is ruled byPrincess Bubblegum. It is made entirely of sweets and sugar, and is the most popular and recurring kingdom in the series. The Candy People are the citizens that live there, most of them resembling some sort of candy or other sweet. Parties and major celebrations are thrown constantly here; this may be the Candy Kingdom's culture, or Princess Bubblegum's own positive personality. Lady Rainicorn, Tree Trunks and Pig are the only ones not to be candies or sweets.
The Ice Kingdom is a setting in Adventure Time. It is made up of hundreds of pointy, snow capped mountains, as well as several snowy hills. It is the location of the Ice King's castle as well as the home for a variety of ice-themed creatures. It is also mentioned that the Ice Kingdom was formerly Northern America before The Great Mushroom War. This is where the animated short took place, and is also the place that the princesses were held captive in "Prisoners of Love." The Ice Kingdom's population is fairly sparse, by the look of things, especially compared to other kingdoms in the land. The population consists mostly of penguins, with the occasional elemental creatures conjured by the Ice King himself. The Ice Kingdom is bordered on at least one side by water, as shown in "Evicted!," and is visible from Finn and Jake's Tree Fort.
The Tree Fort is a "guard outpost" on the edge of the Candy Kingdom, as well as Finn, Jake, BMO, CMO, and Neptr's home, and where they can usually be found when they aren't adventuring. It was formerly owned by Marceline as revealed in "Evicted!" It includes a living room, a bedroom, a kitchen, a pond, a well, a bathroom, a chicken coop, an attic, a storage cave/garage in the episode "What is Life?" a secret place in the episode "Dad's Dungeon" and a wide look-out view.
