I've been hiding in this damn bush for hours. When the siren went of I just started running, and when I found the little trail I just followed it. I though the bush was a good place to hide because I could somewhat see what was going on around me, but other people couldn't see me and would t know I'm here if I stay quiet.
After a couple hours though, I'm getting fidgety. The sun has almost set completely and any heat that it provided is gone with it. Thank god they gave me a jacket. I'd be freezing otherwise.
I continue to sit here. Not daring to move. I wonder where everyone else is? If anyone has been found yet. I shift to move my position and hear a noise. Running. Getting closer. I listen a little closer and realize that i hear not one, but two People, coming from opposition directions.
The two runners are completely different. The one is loud, taking short, quick steps. Landing heavily. The other is light, the sound of feet barely audible and although this one is moving faster, the strides are longer and not as fast.
I keep on listening. The soft steps are coming closer quicker but I know I'm well concealed by the leaves. The steps are now infront of me, but the person has stopped moving. I remind myself to stay silent, but all of a sudden something knocks me off my feet, falling on top of me.
I let out a grunt, And a small hand shoots up, covering my mouth. I look up to see who the hand belongs to and see the last person I could ever expect.
Sybil.
I can feel my mouth drop open slightly, her hand concealing it, and my eyes grow wide. I try to ask what she's doing but her hand is pressed too hard to my mouth.
I look at her eyes and see a mix of determination and a plea. I understand now. Those other footsteps aren't another chosen. They're a hunter. The steps are getting closer and closer with every passing second. Sybil rolls beside me and hunches down, ready to run if she needs to. I guess I should do the same. I get up slightly and look over at her.
Her jaw is set, just like it always seems to be. Eyes are set forward starring out of the bush, watching. Brown hair in a messy ponytail. Her bottom lip is taken into her mouth in concentration and the tip of her nose and ears are red from the cold.
Why doesn't she have a jacket? She must be freezing!! Her neck is covered in goosebumps and I can't help but wish that she would look at me.
The sound of pounding feet passes us, and I let out a breath I wasn't even aware I was holding. We stay like this for a few more minutes, the tension growing, until finally Sybil gets up and out of the bush. I follow after her.
She looks over to me "sorry about that. Didn't know you were in there. I heard him coming and didn't know what to do. Sorry again" she rambles, although not nervously.
"Don't apologize, its fine. You do owe me though" I say, grinning slightly.
Her brows furrow in confusion "ok. What? What do I owe you exactly Horan?"
"Ok well first off That's not my name. It's Niall. And we stick together for the rest of the test."
She gives me a glare and walks into the forest, me staying close behind. My blond hair's come out of its normal quiff and lies messily across my forehead, making me push it way every few minutes. We continue to walk in silence for a while. The sound of our feet crunching against the crisp grass being the only noise.
I see her wrap her arms around herself and lift her shoulders, trying to shield herself from the cold wind. Without a second thought I pull off my jacket and wrap it around her shoulders. My heart sinking into my shoes as she pushes it off of her quickly and hands it back to me mumbling a simple "I'm fine". I shrug it back on and and jog a few steps, catching up to her.
