Too Much

The next week at school started off as awkward as possible. At least for me. No one else seemed to notice.

I looked at Luke, Dustin, and Lexi a lot differently than I did before.

Walking into school, I saw the three of them in front of Luke's locker.

I look specifically at him for some reason, looking for a longing glance at Lexi or a suggestive wink. Anything to tell if he was still in love with her.

This is what made me mad.

I found nothing.

How am I supposed to know how he feels about Lexi, if he doesn't show it in his actions.

I spot Kayla to my left, and head over to her.

"Kayla," I call when I get within ear distance.

She smiles at me. "Glad to see you back in hell with the rest of us."

I laugh. "Glad to be back."

I turn to look at Luke again for some reason... only to find him looking at me.

I blush a little. I actually blush. And almost gag at myself.

I look away, and Kayla starts telling me about her plans for this afternoon.

"I went shopping yesterday..."

I look back over at Luke to see Dustin leave and Lexi move closer to him.

"...I really really wanted this red dress..."

Dustin looks over at her and she smirks.

"...I decided to go with the black. It's shorter and tighter anyway..."

She hooks her hand behind his neck, running her other hand through his hair.

"...will catch his eye..."

She pulls his head closer to hers.

No.

"...by tonight, I'll be in his bed..."

She kisses him.

"...and that's how you get an A kiddo."

Forgetting Kayla and her story, I turn around to leave, only to bump into Kyle.

Woah.

"What happened to you?"

"You really don't remember, do you?" Kyle looks at me through his one good eye for confirmation, then at Kayla.

"No," I respond, "What happened?"

"Your little boyfriend hit me when I tried to come visit you."

"What?"

"I came to your house and he was parking outside. When I tried to go up to your front door he hit me. Your mom came outside and she stopped him, but when I asked to see you, she made me and him leave. I can understand why she doesn't want this crazy guy around you. But me? We're practically best friends."

That's so unlike my mom. Why wouldn't she want Kyle to see me?

"I'm so sorry that happened to you Kyle. My mom probably just didn't want to bring any trouble around."

I hug him when he opens his arms to me, and look over his shoulder to find Luke glaring at us.

Lexi says something to him, and he turns to walk away with her.

...

"What's your problem?" Luke asks when I sit next to him in class.
