As a nurse, emergency situations were something I lived for. As a pregnant woman, it was a completely different game.

There was dirt and glass all over me: in my clothes, hair, and on my skin. My vision was slightly blurry, but clear enough to make out everything around me. I was aware of a few things:

1. My car was smashed and smokey.
2. The driver of the other car was unconscious, a screaming child in his back seat.
3. I was 7 months pregnant and there was water running down my legs.
