You didn't want this any more than she did.
You didn't want to fight her. More so, hurt her. She was your friend. You're best friend. And you would do anything to get her out of this fiasco alive and unharmed. Even if it means sacrificing your own life.
Unfortunately for you, she was also thinking somewhere along those lines. But she wasn't thinking of sacrificing her life. Oh no. She was something far more greater than her life. She was sacrificing you.
She'd rather lose you this way that end your life by her own two hands while you awaited Death to claim you as if he was your long lost father.
You've steeled yourself for that much. You've already steeled yourself for this moment since the incident with Hanji's... pet Titans, Sonny and Bean, but you never steeled yourself for the next words that came out of your friend's lips or the pair of cold blue eyes that accompanied them.
"I killed Marco." She confessed. Her voice steady and her gaze cold as the Arctic winds before she yanked her blades off of your flesh, leaving a string of fresh blood in their wake as the rest of it dripped on the floor.
Out of shock, you could only stare at her with wide eyes. Paying no attention to the blood that was slowly pooling beneath your feet. You could hear Marco saying-screaming something out of panic but you couldn't comprehend what his exact words were since all your mind could register in that moment was your friend's exact words.
I killed Marco.
Why? Why would she do that? Why would she kill Marco of all people? She should know better than anyone else exactly what he meant to you.
He was your first friend! And the first person who was persistent enough to break through your walls when you were too stubborn on doing your duty than to make friends. He was the one who always stubbornly stayed by your side even when all you did was try to push him away.
He was the first person you were attached to since you and your brother met the commander and that cooky scientist.
And she killed him.
Annie was your best friend, sure! But Marco... Marco was just... so much more. He meant so much more than a friend to you. You just didn't know on what terms. So the thought of your best friend killing him just didn't sit well with you. At all.
And by that I mean, you were completely and uncontrollably mad.
Mad enough to lose control of the monster that was sleeping inside of you. A monster that not even freckled Jesus knew of.
