There Was Something

There was something peaceful in your touch,

Like a cool breeze against my skin on a humid night.

Gentle.

Relief.

Needed.

It swayed me,

Demanding I find a way,

To hold the wind; to make you stay.

There was something toxic in your lips.

Like a drug created to render me lost.

Never enough,

Blinding me from the light,

Always needing more

There was something giving in your eyes,

Like arms stretching out to hold me.

Hypnotic.

Vital.

Their stare all that told me I was there.

But there was something missing in your heart.

Like two wires that needed a link,

A link that I was not.

Crushing.

Detached.

Unfixable.

I needed your touch,

I died on your lips,

I lived in your eyes.

I lost you to your heart.
