Chapter 4:
"This is going to be a bit if a chock to you, but you have to believe me Julie. I'm not going to lie to you anymore. So you have to believe that what I'm going to tell you is nothing but the truth."
I nodded. I could tell that she was serious. I didn't say anything. I was just waiting for her to talk.
"Your father isn't what he seems to be, Julie. I don't know how to say this but... Your father is a... Vampire." She said the word vampire in a lower even intimidated voice.
I just sat there. I didn't know what to say. A vampire?? What the hell does that mean!? They really exist!?
"What!? A vampire!? Is this some kind of joke?" I asked her freaked out.
"No, honey. You must believe me. I'm telling you the truth. I didn't tell you before now because I wanted to protect you. And that's not all...." She was serious. "I'm a...Witch."
"A witch? What does that mean!? You can do magic and stuff? I asked. I was more curious now than I was freaked and angry.
"Yes, I can do magic, but it's complicated. I also have to tell you that you're half vampire and half witch too."
"M-me!!? But... but I don't have any powers! How can I be?! I'm not cool enough!" (I have no idea where that came from! o_O).
"Cool enough?" She laughed. "This has nothing to do with cool or not Julie. It's the truth. And you DO have powers! I just bound them with a potion, so that you wouldn't hurt yourself. That's why you don't crave for blood and your fangs aren't visible. I managed to bind your powers, till the day came where you would be ready to face the truth. Today is that day. I know you can handle this Julie. You're strong enough to."
I didn't even blink. I didn't want to believe it, but something inside me told me that it was the truth.
"I believe you mom!" I cried and hugged her. "But you have to show me that you're really telling me the truth."
"That wouldn't be a problem" She smiled. Then she lifted a hand, focused a bit on the lamp that was next to the couch and lifted her hand up. It took off the ground and was now floating in the air. I stared at it in disbelief.
"That was so awesome! Can you do anything else?"
"Of course!" She sat the lamp back down and turned to me. She snapped her fingers and she was suddenly... Me! I was standing and staring at myself (or should i say mom). She snapped her fingers again and was her own self again.
"You can shapeshift?" I asked slowly.
"Yes, amongst other things. But not all witches can do it though." She answered.
"What about me? What can I do?"
"Well, when you were younger, before I bound your powers you could levitate and control minds. I bet you could read minds too. You always seemed to know what was bothering me. Mind-control and mind-reading isn't really a witch thing, so I suppose you got that from your vampire side."
It was all still a bit hard to take in, but I could feel that this is who I really was.
"When will I be able to use my powers? I asked curiously.
"I'll have to prepare the potion first. It takes effect after a few hours. But I have to tell you that it isn't going to be a pleasant experience, Especially when you're going to be turning into a vampire. As a half-breed you will be able to control your thirst for blood better than full-bloods. That's the good thing about being half-blood. The bad thing is that you aren't as strong as a full-blood. But as a witch... You will have powers no vampire has. You will be able to use magic that no one can ever imagine."
I nodded. I listened to her intensly. I wanted my powers. I wanted to be able to explore myself. To become what I really was. But not just yet.
"I understand mom." I said seriously. "I want to be able to use my powers, but not until I've heard the whole truth and studied the matter more."
Wow! I never thought that I would say something like that. Suddenly I felt more mature and understanding. This wasn't me.
"Be free to ask anything you want honey. I will only tell you the truth from now on, I promise."
"I want to know why we had to go away from dad" I said.
She sighed, sad down next to me and took my hand before she said. "Your father, Julie, is not a decent man. He hurt alot of people, including us. He had no mercy for humans. I loved him, but after I found out about what he really believed in, I had no choice but to take you and get away as fast as possible. He swore that he would find you and kill you. He wouldn't allow his daughter to become a 'good vampire'. You see, Julie? Your father is an evil vampire. He isn't interested in anything but to kill humans without mercy."
I listened in shock! Was my father really that way? I could feel the hate build up in me. But why? This was confusing, I hated my dad all of a sudden. Maybe it was because he was so evil and merciless? Maybe...
"We won't let him find us mom." I looked deep into her eyes to reassure her that everything was going to be okey.
"I know hun." She smiled weakly. "He almost found us a couple of times. That's why we had to move so suddenly all those times. If I wasn't a witch, he would have found us alot earlier."
We sat there for a bit just watching TV. After an hour or so, I was really sleepy. I stood up, kissed mom goodnight and went upstairs. I looked in my mirror as I changed to my pajamas. I was really pale. All this had really affected me. I lay down in my bed and soon drifted into a dreamless sleep.
