Chapter 9
Bzzz! Bzzz! Came from Elise’s pocket and it almost felt like an earthquake for her. She took her phone out of her pocket and looked at the caller I.D.
“Crap it’s Tom.” Elise grumbled. She stared at her phone wondering if she should answer it or not and felt a tapping on her shoulder.
“Well chika, aren’t you going to answer it?” Kristen looked at her.
“Look at the road!” Elise shouted when they almost hit an old lady walking over the road but Kristen stopped just in time and the lady shouted at her and her eyes stretched: “Who knew old ladies knew so many cruel words?” Kristen drove when the lady was done.
“You answer it. Tell him I’ve got, uhm, you make something up!” Elise shoved her phone in Kristen’s hands. She rolled her eyes and answered it.
“Hey Tommy! Elise sadly got hit by a truck and wants to avoid you right now. Bye” She said glaring at Elise and put the phone on loudspeaker.
“Aw Kris, you know I love you but that’s the most terrible excuse you’ve ever come up with!” Tom laughed and cleared his throat, “She didn’t really get hit by a truck right?”
“You’re asking about that?! Didn’t you hear the part where I said she’s avoiding you!” Kristen said louder, and Elise tried to hold her laugh in as best as possible.
“People hear what they want to hear baby.” Tom chuckled.
“Really? Well, let’s get to it then? You’re a terrible surfer, terrible driver and get a haircut!” Kristen held the phone closer to her mouth and pulled into the driveway at their cottage. At that comment Elise couldn’t hold herself in and burst out with laughter.
“Yeah getting a tattoo is painful, Kristen! And I know you’re there Elise.”
“No. It iz eh Tonya, Kristen’s leetle cousin?” Elise said in a Russian accent.
“Right, Kristen does surely not have cousins from overseas.” Tom said.
“Hmm, awkward.” Kristen muttered.
“Oops I’ve got another call coming in! Talk later!” Elise panicked and disconnected the call. She sighed and climbed out of the car.
“Well that went well? But something in that sigh you just gave has something else in it too?” Kristen looked at her.
“What do you mean?”
“Well if you are frustrated with guys you sigh and look down. This one is a sigh mixed with a melody, what’s the gig?” She explained.
“You know me too well? Freaky…” Elise opened the door and felt a heat wave hitting her of all the heaters in the house.
“Don’t change the subject my dear!” Kristen warned her and took off her jacket and sat in front of the fire place.
“Fine, it’s just I think I still like that Tom-”
“Whoah wait! Now, do not fall in that guy’s trap! This Mason guy really looks like ‘the guy’ for you. To make it easy every time you wonder about Tom think of that day he broke your heart.” Kristen moved her position to sit on her knees.
