Marco woke up the next day, blinking at the blinding ray of sunlight streaming in through the window. Unfortunately it happened to land on his eyes like it wanted to blind him. It felt like the world wanted him to get up. Marco gave in and groaned, he threw the blanket off his body and flicked the curtains shut. The entire room was plunged into a translucent darkness again.
Marco slept horribly last night. His hair was messed up, pain and aches were all over his body and a he had throbbing headache plus he was barely awake. But nothing a quick shower can't fix! Marco combed through his wardrobe and grabbed all his necessities for a shower. He was struggling to walk to the door as his legs were cramped so he started to slowly wobble towards the bathroom door. As he passed Star's bedroom door, he checked the calendar on the nearby wall. To his horror, there was only one more day to the prom! And he still hasn't asked Star to dance with him yet!
Nearly a week has past and it felt like mere seconds! He was in no condition to ask Star right now as he looked terrible. "Eh, Star probably got a dance partner by now anyways" Marco thought to himself. He tried to sneak into the bathroom to clean and dress himself without Star noticing his current state. But he failed.
Sneaking past Star's bedroom, he was a few metres away from the bathroom but suddenly,
"Oh, hey Marco!" Star said energetically as she left the bathroom with toiletries in her hand,"Are you okay? You don't look okay."
"Yeah I'm okay, I just didn't sleep that well yesterday. I'm going to shower now."
"Oh. You're busy now, can we talk later." Star's hearts were glowing a bit as she said it.
"No! I'm Marco! and yeah, sure!" Marco exclaimed as he limped into the bathroom and slammed the door, not noticing the glowing hearts. When they were both ready, they met up at the dining table. Marco's parents had already left for work as it was already 11am so Marco had to cook for the both of them. He wanted to set his alarm the night before as he was too lazy to cook but he forgot and fell asleep. Unfortunately, Marco didn't expect to wake up this late and had to make brunch for them.
After spending some time cooking, he carried the brunch to Star in the dining room.
Marco looked like a professional waiter but in pajamas. He held a platter of crispy, creamy nachos in one hand and grabbed two glasses in the other which were filled to the brim with fresh orange juice with a slice of an orange wedged onto the rim of the two cups and was skillfully balancing two plates of bacon and eggs on the arm carrying the nacho platter as well. All this to impress Star and there could be a small chance she would start a conversation and maybe ask him to be her dance partner.
Star awed by the meal presented in front of her, "Wow Marco, I'm impressed. I'm quite jealous of your skills!"
It was super effective!
"I guess we are alone in the house now right?" Star continued.
"Yeah, we are." Marco replied.
It's not very effective.
There was a long pause after Marco replied, it looked like Star ran out of things to say. Causing Marco to have a debate with himself for a while until he finally decided to ask her instead.
Coincidentally they both said "I need to tell you something" at the same time.
"Oh, you go first" Star said politely.
"Noooo! Looks like it's now or never" Marco thought to himself.
"I....ah..." Marco's tongue was tied in knots .He took in a few deep breathes and gathered all the courage he had and finally said it "Do you want to be my dance partner for the prom?"
