Lily's POV
I sighed as I took a sip of my warm evening tea and watch the city lights sparkle like diamonds from my condominium's balcony.
The cold wind murmur against my ears as the evening gentle breeze caresses my skin. I sat down on the lounge chair facing the city and put the cup of tea down on the coffee table.
I leaned my back against the soft cushion and closed my eyes as I took a deep breath.
"Tomorrow's going to be the day, huh?" I whispered to myself, I still couldn't believe that tomorrow's the day that I'd finally open my own coffee shop near MCC theater. It was a dream come true, after all. I rejected my dad's offer to be the next CEO of his company.
I never wanted a lavish life, knowing how complicated it had been for my parents. Why so? Because, they couldn't be together because of their social status. Yes, they're not living under one roof.
I spent 23 years living with my dad, David; my step mom, Nora and my step brother Jason. But I spend every summer with my mom, Jill and my brother, Michael in New York. I adore living a simple life, than a complex lavish one. It's insane how my family keep an old family tradition even up to now, the 21st century.
Arranged marriage. The silliest thing that I've ever heard in my entire life. Why should I marry someone who I don't even love? For money? To maintain that 'status' that this family is boasting about? For power? For fame? Sure, some of those partnership ends up to be beautiful and glorious, but that doesn't happen 100% of the time.
For instance, my mom and my dad. They loved each other, but because of this tradition, they couldn't be together. Even up to now, I know that my mother still loves my father. That's the very reason as to why she haven't married anyone even if my father told her that he had already moved on from her, and that he is now happy with Nora, in which I don't believe so.
She held on to his words, that one day, they'd be together. But promises, those silly promises, they're always bound to be broken. That's why I don't believe in those silly, pathetic love stories that vows a happily ever after, because in reality; there is no such thing as a happily ever after. In reality there's just this certain time of bliss and the next thing you know is that you'll wake up the next morning and everything's falling apart. That's how life works, life is a bitch. There's no neutral point. There's only black and white.
"You seem to be having these late night sentimental moments lately, sis."
I turned my head sideways and saw Mike leaning against the sliding door's door frame. He was wearing his usual cheeky smile with his arms crossed above his chest.
I rolled my eyes and sighed, the hell is he doing here?
"What the hell are you doing here? You didn't even knocked or something." I said in a snappy tone, causing him to chuckle as he lifted his back off from the door frame and walked towards me.
"Geez, I was just trying to check out on you, well, because mom said so and I am worried about you too. Just in case you're wondering mom gave me the spare key you handed her last week."
He smiled taking the keys off from his pocket and showing it to me.
"By the way, how is it going with you hiding from dad? Sooner or later, I bet he's going to find out that you're here. You've put up your own coffee stop here so I'm 100% sure that he'd find you." He sat down next to me and look straight into the brilliant view of the city.
"And?" I raised my brows looking at him. "As soon as I walked out from those mansion doors, I cut my ties with them, you know that Mike. I hated how he was trying to force me to lead that company and to marry his business partner's son."
