My mom always used to scold me for always being out of the house. I go out early in the morning and come home late at night. Where do I go, you might ask? Actually, I'm just at my best friend's house, Nove, who also happened to be my neighbor. Her house is like fifty steps away from mine so I didn't really get why my mom would get mad at me for that. She's not here anymore though. She migrated to China.
Now, my mom is scolding me for not going out of the house anymore. I'm so transfixed with the internet that I couldn't even get my ass out of my bed. Even when my friends come over to drag me out, I wouldn't budge cause I would much rather stay at home and browse the internet. Well, at least that's what I'm doing when I'm not talking to Matt.
It's already 11:42 am but I just woke up. Summer really has a way of fucking up my body clock because now that school's out, I sleep around 4 in the morning... Or worse, I don't sleep at all.
The moment after I was done stretching in bed, I got up and went to the bathroom to brush my teeth. I usually do this first before eating breakfast cause I feel like my mouth has had a drought in it and it smells bad as hell. After brushing my teeth, I hop into a cold shower and change into clean clothes. I unplugged my phone from the socket and decided to message Matt.
Romina: Good morning, hot stuff :p
Matt: Good afternoon, sexy :p
Romina: What's up? what are you doing?
Matt: I'm working babe.
Romina: Well then why are you chatting me? Isn't that allowed?
Matt: Nope. But i'm bad ass ;)I rolled my eyes at his response. It was such a typical cocky reply from him.
Matthew works at his granddad's company. He takes care of the cargo, making sure the supplies are getting to where they should be. He's not supposed to be using the internet other than work related things but it seems like being the grandson of the owner of the company has its perks. But I was still surprised when he asked me if he could call.Romina: But what would we even talk about?
Matt: Anything. Friends, family, love, brocolli.
Romina: Brocolli? I don't even like that.
Matt: Well then, we can talk about why you don't like brocolli! My heart was pounding. I've only ever chatted with him and now he wants to talk to me. Like TALK to me over the phone. I admit I've been stalling a bit because I was nervous! What if he gets turned off because my voice sounds weird over the phone? What if I can't understand him because of his accent? You can't hear accents over chat so I'll definitely won't understand him when he'll talk! Oh my god, what am I going to do?
Matt: Well baby?
Oh no. He's serious. He really wants to talk to me but wha—
Matt calling from Skype...
"Oh shit. Oh shit. Oh shit. Breathe Romina." I began talking to myself. Trying to convince myself that talking to the guy I like isn't a big thing. My hands were shaking. I almost hit the answer button but I chickened out and screamed in frustration. "Ahhhhh!!! No, I can't do this!"
Matt: If you don't want to baby, we can just talk next time.
Great. He thinks I don't want to talk to him. Way to go, self. You're making him think like you're not interested.
I quickly explained why I wasn't able to answer his call.
Romina: Sorry! You caught me off guard! I got nervous and panicked and my heart is beating really fast right now. Can you give me a minute to breathe, please?
Matt: Hahaha okay. Let me know if you're ready so I can call. :)I stood up from where I was sitting and started to jump around, hoping to shake some of my nerves off. "You can do this, Mina. It's Matthew, don't you want to hear his voice?". At this point, I was giving myself a pep talk. Telling myself that it wouldn't be so bad. I didn't realize that I was taking so long until I saw that Matt had already called me twice.
I frantically picked my phone and hit the call button before I could overthink my way out of it. My palms were sweating so bad and my heart was beating too fast but after two rings, Matthew had answered and I felt my breath got caught in my throat.
"Hello?"
Dear God! Lord Almighty! Just his "hello" was already making me melt.
I didn't miss the Australian twang. I already love how he kind of prolongs the "o" in "hello"."Hello? Romina, are you there?"
Silly me, I did't realize that I haven't responded to him. Gathering my courage, I meekly replied, "Hi". But it sounded weak so I cleared my throat and said it again. I heard him laugh on the other side of the line. "What's so funny?" I asked.
"You are. You're nervous"
"Well, shouldn't I be?"
"Don't worry I'm nervous too, but it's nice to finally hear your voice."
