The next morning went much the same as the first, minus the yelling at Amee and fighting with Jewoul-though she pulled the same stunt of not waking up-I just ignored her. Today I was determined, was going to be a good day, if only because I had my favorite class with my favorite teacher of all time.
After a lunch of ravioli and a salad, I headed over to Global Affairs with Bethany and Parker in tow. Not sure why Parker takes Global Affairs, being the fashionista that she is I would have expected her to take like Drawing or something so she could just sketch her outfits out for the week, but here she is. Bethany, my Model UN groupie of course is sooo excited for this class like me. Last semester we rocked Introduction to the Modern World, which is like a prereq for Global Affairs.
We walk into the room and without fail I start smiling. I just love Mr. Roodry, he teaches all the history and so-called social studies classes. I have had him for at least one class every semester that I have been here at Wallace Lake Prep. Not to mention he is the advisor for Model UN so he knows me outside the classroom too.
"Alaaineeeeeee," Mr. Roodry says as he turns around from the blackboard, "I was wondering if I would be seeing you in here today."
"Here I am!" I say, loving every minute of the attention. Not that I am hot for teacher or anything but Mr. Roodry is younger, like maybe early 30s and pretty smokin' for a history professor. And it is not just me who thinks so. You should see the way Amee used to fawn over him. Luckily Mr. Roodry is not the dumb hot teacher type that treats his female students better than his male students. He gives us all pretty dece treatment acts like as much of a friend as he can be while still being a teacher. Like I said he is basically awesome.
I take my seat in the first row next to the door in the third seat and watch as the rest of the class starts filing in. Parker is texting away next to me, I am sure to her latest WLA crush. Really, we have been back for like one day and she is already lining up her conquests. Love the girl to death but not sure how she pulls it off. And speaking of WLA, not to long after the warning bell rings, I can hear the tell-tale sounds of the boys coming down the hall.
"...And that's what she said," Ross says as he walks around the corner and into the room. The entire pack of boys starts guffawing like he's said the funniest thing. I am sure it wasn't even that great.
"Well Mr. Winger, what did she say?" Mr. Roodry asks as the boys take their seats.
"Uh, well, ya know..." Ross trails off. Hah. Leave it to Mr. Roodry to call him out right away.
"That's what I thought," Mr. Roodry says with a smirk, "Now that we have all arrived let's get down to business."
As Mr. Roodry hands out the syllabus for the semester and begins to go over what we are going to cover in class-the Israeli-Palestinian Conflict, the War on Terror, BRIC countries-I start to zone out. I mean the first few days of classes are always the same, go over the syllabus, go over expectations, let's be serious it's all the same. I am sitting there with a fairy tale playing out in my head where Muligan is Prince Charming and I am the Princess to be. Really, I need to get over this. I decide for like the hundredth time in the last few years that I am going to move on. Like really move on. Like take Parker up on her plans to help me get with Ryder. I mean that boy has promise.
I surreptitiously sneak my phone out of my pocket and text my girly under my desk:
FROM: Grlgotwheels (954-1700)
TO: Parkerhere (954-6843):
Yo. I am gonna take you up and go after Ryder. Erryone's
right, bout time I got over Muligan.
Parker, being her slightly ditzy self, is not as sneaky as me and as her phone vibrates in her pocket and she goes to pull it out, manages to throw it halfway across the room. The ensuing flying phone and loud crash draws the entire class's attention on to us. I just start laughing hysterically, while Parker mumbles apologies and jumps up to retrieve the phone.
Lucky for us the bell rings, because even though Mr. Roodry is a pretty easy going teacher, he is still not going to take nicely to us being on our phones during his class.
We're walking out of class when Parker finally reads her message from me. She turns to me and squeals, "Are you serious?! I am so happy for you! I'm going to get on this right away. See you later," and she takes off down the hall leaving me behind. I roll my eyes and sigh. I figure she is running off to find Jonah, her on again off again boy toy, and plot with him about how to hook me up with Ryder. Silly. Duh, I am going to see him at track practice in like two hours and I can start impressing him with my mad running skills. Hah.
Orrrrr maybe I'll see him right now, I think as I round the corner and smack right into Mr. Deep Sea Green Eyes himself. My books go flying as I hit the floor, butt first. Ryder, but of course being the nice, strong, and apparently well-balanced person that he is, manages to stay on his feet.
"Alaaine!" he exclaims, "I didn't even see you there. I'm so sorry, are you ok?" he asks as I scramble around gathering my books.
"I'm fine. No worries," I say as I scramble to stand up and he hands me my Global Affairs textbook.
"Still undercover as Dead Clumsy, I see." Ryder says. I take my book, then, channeling Parker, take the time to smooth down my sure to be fluffy and out of control hair, before smirking and acknowledging him.
"I mean a girl has to have some sort of secret identity to get around here without being mobbed by adoring fans." I say jokingly, as I attempt to be flirty and sashay by him with a glance over my shoulder. But of course I can't make a stately exit. As I go to turn the corner for take two someone else comes from the opposite direction and knocks me right on my butt...again.
"Holy hell!" I screech. "Today is not my day," I mutter, as once again I crawl around picking up my stuff. I finally gather it all and look up to see two hands reaching down to help me up. Oh but of course I have to manage to walk into both Ryder and Muligan within 5 seconds of each other.
"Damn it all," I say before pushing myself up and ignoring their hands, "what are you trying to do Muligan? Last I checked you ran for the boy's team and didn't need me out of the way to keep your spot."
"Chill out, Alaaine," Muligan says, rolling his eyes. "All I was doing was walking, you on the other hand, well I am not sure what you would call what you were doing...apart from making eyes at Ryder," he laughs.
I blush, shoot a quick glance at Ryder to see what he thought of the comment, and shove Muligan before I stalk off. Way to go Alaaine, I think as I rush to Spanish class, not only did you manage to make a fool of yourself in front of Ryder, you then get caught doing it in front of Muligan. Track is going to be a joy this afternoon.
