The Lycans- Chapter III
Mate.
Our eyes were glued together and neither of us tried to turn away. She was the most beautiful creature I have ever laid eyes on.
She had long, light brown hair, the color of milk chocolate. Her eyes were a clear, crystal blue. She had high cheekbones and pink lips, just begging to be kissed. But the best part of it all- she was mine.
It took everything in me to hold myself and my wolf back from running up and taking her right here and right now, but both my wolf and I knew that this was not the time.
If we said anything now, or tried to claim her now, it would be seen as disrespect. I, and anyone associated with me could be put to death depending on how the Alpha felt about the action.
It wasn't until the Lycan Alpha said something to her did we break away our gazes. I looked to see Holden's eyes glued to one of the twins. I smirked; Holden was never a womanizer like Jacob, so this could only mean that Holden too found his mate. I nudged him and gave him a teasing smile. His he gives me an embarrassed smile. I look to see one of the twins blushing as red as her hair.
"Hello, fellow wolves, we are gathered here today because Mr. Ezra Hampton of the Moon Shade Pack, son of Mr. and Mrs. Eric and Melissa Hampton shifted into a Lycan during his shift two years ago. Ezra, would you please stand up?" the Lycan Alpha says.
I stand up, looking around the room, and I hear excited conversations around the room, but they are ended short when the Lycan Alpha starts to talk again.
"Thank you, Ezra," he says, as I take a seat. I flick my gaze to his daughter, who gives me a shy smile. I return it with one of my own. My wolf is thrilled. Our mate not only recognized us, but she accepted us with her smile. And of course I accepted her.
"My name is Alpha Gunner O'Connell. This is my mate, Tiara, son and the next Alpha, Hunter, and daughter, Esther," Esther, my wolf and I sigh. The Alpha quickly moves on to the other families on the panel.
"This is my Beta, Beta Mason Vanderbilt, and his mate, Glory, and their children, GG and Killian. Then he points each person. "My Third-In-Command, Gamma Roman McMair, his mate and my sister, Lauren, and their twins, Ava and Eva," Then he goes on to announce all the packs that were here and asked them to stand.
Which one is your girl?
I ask Holden through the link.
Eva.
He says back dreamily. I laugh at his love struck puppy face- only Holden.
While the Alpha O'Connell introduced the packs, I snuck some glances at Esther. She felt my gaze on her and looked at me. She looked around at my buds, Jason, mum, dad and Alpha Ryan. She gives them a bright smile and waves at us.
We wave back and she looks at the pack that was just announced.
"And last, but not least, the Moon Shadow Pack," Alpha O'Connell finishes, and we stand up. After the respectful applause, we sit down and start the trial.
"Ezra Mason Hampton, please come forward to the podium," Beta Vanderbilt says, everyone turning serious now.
I walk up with straight posture and my head held high.
"Mr. Hampton, why do you claim to be a Lycan?" he asks. It was usually the Betas who held trials and the Alpha and Gamma would be the judges.
"On my 16th birthday, I experienced an extremely painful shifting. It was almost unbearable, and it wasn't supposed to be like that according to my friends, family and teachers. When it was finally over, I looked into the mirror to see that I was a huge, solid colored wolf. I was bigger than my Alpha. Throughout the years, I also gained better senses. I became extremely strong. I could I gained excellent vision, even in the dark or fog. I can smell and hear for miles. I can taste things without actually putting them in my mouth. And I can feel other people's emotions. I did a lot of research, and all of it led me to the conclusion that I am of the Lycan descendant," I fill them in with all the events that happened over the last two years.
"Wow that is quite a lot. We apologize that you had to deal with all this by yourself. You must have been very confused," the Alpha says.
"It is fine, sir, I had my family and friends with me," I say. That was partially true. I did have my friends, and Jason and Alpha Ryan were also very helpful. Unfortunately I can't say the same for my parents.
"Well we're glad to have you here," my mate's soft, silky voice says sweetly. I smile at the panel. Hmm, I've been doing a lot of smiling today.
The panel talk among themselves. My mate does not say anything, neither do any of the other teenagers and children, but the
"Back to the meeting- we see nothing false about your claim. But as one more final check, we ask you to shift. A guard will escort you to the changing room, and back," Beta Vanderbilt says. Wow, that was... easy? All they need is for me to shift?
I nod, and follow the guard who motioned to me. He led me through the door and a hallway to another small room.
"Just scratch on the door when you are ready to come and out, and I will open the door for you," he says. I nod and go in to shift.
Shifting was one of the nest feelings. It was as if I was stretching after a long day of sitting exercising or sitting in the same position. The pain of shifting lessened and lessened to the point where it just felt good.
As soon as I shifted into my large white wolf, I scratched on the door, letting the guard know I was ready.
He opened the door, and escorted me to the room where the meeting was taking place. Everyone was chattering away. I sense excitement and happiness. People were having a good time. As soon as I step into the room, the room slowly quiets down. I hear some gasps. The most prominent ones were the ones that came from the panel.
"You're white!" GG said. I give her a wolfish nod. I see the others on the panel also have surprised faces.
"But, b-but," one of the twins stutter.
"We can talk about his wolf later. First, let us complete this meeting," Alpha O'Connell says. His voice changed from a gentle, professional tone to a cold, challenging tone, as if he was testing me. Maybe they would be testing me to see my wolfs potential.
The Gamma comes and studies my wolf form. He pokes and prods which agitated my wolf, but we knew we had to stay quiet.
"He is 100% Lycan," Gamma McMair comes to a conclusion.
"Well then, I guess that there is nothing left to say," Alpha O'Connell starts, " we have our final verdict,"
"Ezra Mason Hampton of the Moon Shade Pack, son of Mr. and Mrs. Eric and Melissa Hampton, is a Lycan," he announces with finality in his tone. Applause and polite cheers ring throughout the room. This confused me. They accepted me so quickly, why would they do that? The trial only took a little over an hour!
"Since everyone is already here, we will have an acceptance ceremony tomorrow night. I hope you all can stay until then,"
Conversations and excited squeals start all over the room. Being included in a ceremony held by the Lycans was one of the greatest honors. Not only because they are such high ranking wolves, but because they are rumored to host the best parties.
"A barbecue is being held outside for everyone, so please help yourselves," the Beta says, and everyone slowly starts to disperse out of the room. My pack and I wait for the Lycan panel so that we could discuss any fine tune details.
"You may all go, I would like to have a private chat with Ezra," Alpha O'Connell says with finality in his voice.
I see Esther and the others from the panel giving me apologetic looks, making me more nervous than I already was.
After they all flock out and the room is empty, Alpha asks me to walk with him. We walk for a while until we were far enough away that the others in the barbecue couldn't hear us. What he says next surprises me.
"What makes you good enough to be my daughter's mate?"
