The Lycans- Chapter IV
I stood frozen, not knowing how to respond. How the heck did he know that Esther and I were mates? I was there almost the whole time, and I am positive that Esther didn't tell him. Or maybe she did when I was in the changing room. Or maybe they mind linked.
What if they try to take her away from me?
"Calm down, I will not come between you're relationship, but I am warning you, you'd better take good care of her, and she is not to be mated until she is 30," thought his words seemed amusing, his tone was not.
"But I truly am curious on how you are worthy of her," he continued. My wolf let out a growl, and I instantly apologize, mentally scolding my wolf. This man ad the power to take my mate away from whenever he wanted, so I had to stay on his good side. I would not do anything with her without his consent.
"It is alright child, my comment was not clear and obviously offensive. Let me explain," he starts, leading me to a bench. I look around, I was so engrossed in the conversation that I didn't even realize we had walked into a park.
"Esther is a very special wolf. I won't tell you why, because it is between you and her. I shouldn't have told you she's different, but it is crucial for her safety. There is a lot to this story and she has had a long past, and that causes her to have a harder time around new people. I am sure you are expecting her to jump into your arm like you were always told your mate would do, but these are different circumstances. She will need some time. She was never good with change," he sighs, and far away look in his eyes.
"The thing is that her mate must be stronger and either equally as powerful or more powerful than her. I know it is not right of me to judge you, but to me, you seem like an average Lycan to me. And above that, you have only the teachings and training of an average wolf. You have not been trained to use your abilities to the fullest, or have been taught the ancient history of the Lycan kind. I am sure you are wondering how I know your were Esther's mate, weren't you?" he asks, as if he is trying to prove a point. I nod, listening intently.
"Lycan mates are different that others. Both the male and the female have the same colored fur. As soon as the two wolves accept each other and mate, a mark will form on the male's front right paw and the female's front left paw that can be completed to make a picture together. For example, my mate and I both have deep burgundy colored wolves, and our paws make a picture of a tiara and a moon. Representing our power, and as a personal symbol, her name," he explains. Wow, that was a lot to take in. Another question hit me, and I almost rose my hand like I was in a classroom.
"But how did you know that I was her mate. Surely there are other white wolves out there, right?" I mean, it wasn't like white was an uncommon color in wolves. Alpha Ryan was white and brown and Jason had white streaks in his black fur.
"Ah, that is where you are mistaken. There have only been 3 white Lycans known to our world. The first Lycan- Gabriel right when he was given the gift by the Moon Goddess, his mate, and Esther. You make 4. Alphas report the colors of their wolves as soon as their pack members shift so that we can try to match up mates, and not once have we gotten a report about a white wolf. And then there is the fact that you are not denying it, confirming my thoughts," he says. We sit in a comfortable silence as we both think and sink in information.
"No others know about Esther being white either. It is very important that you keep it to yourself. Knowing that you are white has already caused discomfort among the Lycan communities, knowing that there's another white Lycan would cause disruption. Tonight, I will also talk to the Alpha of Moon Shade, and your family to make sure word doesn't get out."
"And even more importantly, do not let anyone know or think you are mates. Not even you pack mates, we will tell them tonight. Esther knows she mustn't say anything, but it is crucial that no one finds out," though I still needed answers, I kept my mouth shut and nodded. I may not understand what was happening, but I did understand that is was formal matters that should not go out.
