The Lycans- Chapter VIII

The restaurant was lively, and the costumers seemed to be enjoying themselves. There was a bar, where many people were crowded watching a football game, and some more quiet seating areas. Taking is the smell of delicious fries and sandwiches, I also noticed that everyone in here were wolves. Alpha Ryan also seemed to notice this, as he asks Eleanor how they kept humans away.

"The restaurant closes at 10pm to the general public. We tell them that only the VIP members can dine in later," Eleanor explains. I check my watch to find that it was 10 to 11 already. We had been talking with the Lycans for hours.

Eleanor led us to a large table that seemed to be prearranged for us already. Everyone nodded and waved at her. It was obvious that she was well respected in the pack, but there was also fear mixed into their emotions. We slid into the benches, I sat between my sister and Esther, with Eleanor on the edge of the bench.

"You'll definitely find something that you like here," she says, handing everyone a menu. She let us settle down, and disappeared into the back saying she'd be back.

"I think I like Eleanor the most out of all the people here," Jason says. He's kept quiet most of the trip.

"Wow, thanks," Esther replies, feigning hurt. Jason turns bright red out of embarrassment and his eyes widen like a deer caught in headlights, making us all laugh. Everyone except my 'mom' and 'dad', who were still in a daze. I understand though, they just found out that they lost their child, and that the raised someone else's son. They sat on the far corners of the table. I wanted to have a conversation with them, but now wasn't the right time.

Eleanor came back an intimidating middle-aged man. He was tall, and probably in his late 30s.

"Everyone, this is my uncle, Drake, he was a good friend of my father's, and usually runs this restaurant," she says.

"Hello, it's nice to meet you all," he says. He looks at everyone for a second. His eyes linger on me for a little extra time.

"You must be Ezra," he laughs, and I nod. "You look just like Eleanor," before I could respond, he gets called back. He gives us a apologetic smile and takes off.

"He used to be a pack warrior before he got hurt in the battle against the rouges years ago," Eleanor explained. I wondered where he got hurt. He looks just fine.

As if reading my mind, Eleanor elaborates, "He has a prosthetic leg. You couldn't tell as he has wearing long pants, but if you look closely, you will see differences in his walk."

Drake came back and took our orders. It was strange, knowing that he was supposedly a family friend, but he insisted, and seemed to enjoy it. I looked at his leg, and sure enough, there was metal in place of his left foot from what I could see.

The food came right away. Hot, mouth watering aromas filled the place. I think I swooned at my plate. Eleanor started laughing.

"I know, the food here is very good," and with that we dug in.

For a while everyone just sat in silence. A nice peaceful silence. We basically inhaled our food and drinks. Even my 'parents' seemed to forget about their other worries and dig in.

But silence is only golden because it's rare.

The door snapped open and Eva walked in with a worried Ava behind her. Eleanor's irises turned from striking blue to pitch black as they approached the table.

"Is there something wrong?" she says calmly, but there was something in her tone that said 'back the fuck off'.

"No, we're going back to the pack house, don't worry," Ava says in a rush, before Eva could say anything.

"No, I-" Eva starts, only to be cut off by her sister.

"We are leaving now, enjoy your dinner,"

But before they could leave, Holden pipes up.

"Wait, can my mate please eat here with-"

"No," Eleanor growls. Esther gives Holden a look, silently reminding him about what she told us before we left. She tries to help Ava calm her sister down, be Eva was not having any of it.

"Look, I just want to be with my mate," Eva says, making Eleanor laugh- but not the happy laugh, the really intimidating who-the-hell-are-you kind of laugh.

"That is so rich coming from you Eveline," Eleanor says, "get out of here, and do not even think if coming back. Unlike you, I am not a home wreaker. I am not keeping your mate here against his will. He is here to enjoy a meal with his friends, incase they do not have the chance to do so before he leaves. If you haven't realized, the next few days are going to be very hectic for both your mate and my brother,"

Home wreaker?

Eva looked like she was about to cry. I could tell that Eleanor was holding herself back, she definitely had more to say to her. I wonder what happened between those two. It seems like Eleanor really has something against her and the rest of the top Lycan families of this pack.

"Please, I'm sorry about what happened in the past, it wasn't my fault, okay?"

"Why are you here Eva? You've just met your mate, and it's not like you can't live without him. You aren't here because you want to be with him, you're here because you're scared of what I may do or say to him. If you really want to talk about the past, you should educate everyone else at the table about what happened,"

Eva looked extremely guilty. What Eleanor said made a lot of sense, even though I don't really know what is going on. Since she came in, Eva hasn't even spared a glance at Holden. She hasn't said anything to anyone but Eleanor, and it seems as though she is scared of Eleanor.

"We are leaving Eva, don't make this worse for yourself. You know you are in the wrong here," Ava says, pulling her away.

The atmosphere of the table became extremely tense once again. Everyone was finished with their food, and didn't really know what to do. Should we say something? Just sit quietly?

"Well, I think this dinner is over, I am sorry for the scene I created, I'll lead you back to where you've been staying,"

I really wanted to know what happened between Eleanor and Eva. Even though I've only known her for a few hours, Eleanor seems like a reasonable type of person, so what could went so wrong? Esther seems to be closer to Eleanor that she is to Eva, so is that a sign that Eva is bad news?

I had so many questions, and I could tell that Holden did too.

"Hey, you good? You'll be able to spend all your time with her in a few days, don't worry," I try to offer some comfort, but I didn't really know what I was doing.

"She called her a home wreaker. What is that supposed to imply?" he asks.

Holden was into the whole 'wait for your mate' thing. Plus it wasn't like any of us had the chance to fool around when we were going through the intense training to become pack warriors. It was an extremely difficult and serious process. Just finishing the training was enough to gain the utmost respect from everyone- even the elders of the pack.

"I don't know man, I'm sorry, but she's your mate, you were paired together for a reason, just try to overlook her past, whatever she may have done,"

"Yeah, okay," he says, climbing into the back of the car in a daze. Today was a very heavy day, but I hope that it won't be like that tomorrow. But I can only hope.
