The Lycans- Chapter IX
I had a nice, peaceful sleep last night, which kind of made me feel guilty since I knew this wasn't the case for Holden or my parents. Today, we would be touring the pack. It was mostly for Holden and me, but everyone would be tagging along.
Esther said that she'd be introducing us to some people around the pack, and that me and Holden would enroll in the university downtown. Usually, high school was the most education wolves had, but Esther explained that it was important for each wolf to get the proper education incase one day they have to find a job outside of the pack.
Lycans were a lot more independent than normal wolves. Normal wolves have ranks depending on their strength and power. Lycans usually have their own special affinity that makes it hard to tell who is more powerful, so they resorted to voting for their ranked wolves. From what I've been told, it seems that the Alpha title usually gets passed down generations until the people decide that they want another bloodline to rule.
I take a shower and get dressed quickly, Esther was supposed to be here at 11:00, and it was 10:45 at the moment. I go down stairs to be greeted by the delicious smell of cinnamon buns. Was Esther here already or did someone bake? Well, this would be a problem in the future.
Everyone but Alpha Alex and my adoptive father were downstairs. I took a seat next to tired looking Holden.
"Oh, Ezra, I made you Cinnamon Buns! Your favourite recipe too! Come, eat!" My adoptive mom says, try to put on cheery facade. But I could see through her, and she looked very sad. It must be the weight of finding out the truth. I knew I couldn't expect my adoptive parents to be okay for a while. I just hop that some day, they will be happy once again.
"Thanks mom," I say. She froze at the word mom. Though I guess she was technically my adoptive mother, she was still the woman who raised me, and I would forever love her for that.
She gave a a genuine smile and returned to making coffee.
"Everyone, pack your things, we must leave right away!" Alpha Alex says, running downstairs.
"What?"
"What happened?"
"Is it the pack?"
"Is the Luna in labor?" Various voices asked in concern.
"There have been some rouge sightings around the territory. It has gotten out that most Alphas are away from their homes for this event, so it seems that other packs are also have the same issue. The Lycans have already given us safe passage out of their territory!"
"What is the plan? What side of the territory are they on?" This time, it was Holden who asked the questions.
Alpha Alex stopped his hurrying for a second and faced me and Holden.
"You two have worked very hard for your spot as warriors, and that title will always be with you. But, you have onto understand that this is your pack now, and unfortunately I cannot take you with me,"
"What? Our friends are back there, they could get hurt! People that I grew up with could get hurt. We can help! You need every warrior available!" I couldn't believe that Alpha Alex through times soling to stay while everyone rushed back.
"No Ezra, you must stay. You would be the main target if you showed up. You know that Lycans are very protective of their own, and the rouges would do everything in their power to take you and hold you as leverage against the Lycan pack. There hasn't been an attack yet, they may back off when they see my the return of the Alpha and Beta,"
I tried to protest, but he did not let me.
"Ezra, Holden, it has been an honour to be in the presence of a Lycan and a soon to be Lycan. I cannot thank you enough for the hard work you have put into making my pack as strong as possible. You guys have made me and the pack proud, and I know you will do the same in this pack. Now, I have to go, but this is not the last time we meet," he says, giving us a genuine look of pride.
"Thank you Alpha," we say, as we bow our heads one last time before he takes off to the car.
Terrance, Sterling, Jason, and my parents quickly piled down the stairs. My friends- no, my brothers- wish me the best of luck. I knew they were needed back in the pack as they were some of the finest warriors, but it was still hard to say goodbye.
"Ezra, I know we didn't have the best relationship, but I will never deny your hard work ethic and your brilliance. I know you will do great things in the future, and I wish you the best of luck," my father says before he rushes out as well. My mother and I were the last ones left.
"Ezra," she starts, but instead gives me a big hug, "you will always be my son, and I thank the moon goddess for giving me a second chance with you when my first child died. You will do great things, and up the Lycans will see just how lucky they are to have you in their pack," she says. I could feel her tears, but I knew she had to go.
Watching my family drive away was the hardest thing that I've ever done. I knew this day was coming, but I thought I had a few more days to prepare. But I had hope inside, I knew that though I was leaving one family, I was just being accepted into another.
"Hey," I heard a gorgeous voice call out.
Turning around, I face my mate who gives me an empathetic smile.
"You will see them again, don't worry," she says, giving me a hug. Her head fit perfectly under my chin- as if we were two puzzle pieces.
"We don't have to go on the tour today-"
"No, I think it would be best of Holden and I got settled down as soon as possible," I say before she could finish. I wanted to know everything about my kind, and fast.
"Okay, get Holden and let's go," she says.
I go upstairs to find a distressed Holden. I was able to say goodbye to my family, but Holden's grandparents thought he would be coming back with the Alpha.
"I called my grandparents," he starts, "They told me to be on my best behavior and treat my mate like a queen or else they would drag me home and give me and old-fashioned whooping,"
I couldn't help but laugh. Holden's grandparents may be old, but they were very fit and healthy. A plus that comes with being a wolf. I have no doubt that his grandma- who was a pack warrior in her day- would whoop him hard.
"Don't laugh, they said that the warning extended to you as well," he says.
"Of course. Esther is here, we're leaving for the tour," I say, "unless you'd rather stay here, she said she can take us another day,"
"No, let's go. I think we are going to be just fine here,"
"I think so too,"
