Instead of being gulped up by a whale, Pinocchio was swallowed up by a shark where Geppetto was already. The father of the puppet went out to look for his boy and got swallowed up while Pinocchio tried to swim back to his dad after he turned back to a puppet.
In order to get out of the shark, they literally just walked out.
Taking Geppetto's hand, the pair started to climb up the shark's stomach, using a candle to light their way. When they got as far as its jaws, they took fright, but as so happened, this shark slept with its mouth open, for it suffered from asthma.
I didn't know sharks had asthma.
