It’s about 4O’clock when we get home. We just sit on Noah’s bed talking. He’s wearing no shirt and board shorts, while I’m now wearing jeans rolled to my knees and my bikini top since my other top is now wet. We aren’t talking about anything specific, just catching up as friends do. While sitting there, both of us hear a knock at Noah’s bedroom door.
April walks in and smiles at me. But there is something strange about her smile. It’s almost as though it isn’t genuine. Either way, it fades away oddly. She directs her attention to Noah. “Front door is for you.” She says, before turning and walking towards the kitchen.
Noah looks to me. “I wonder who that is. I wasn’t expecting anyone tonight.”
I shrug my shoulders and following him out. When we step into the hallway, a freezing draft blows past us. I shiver as I feel the cold move straight through me. A series of Goosebumps cover my skin on my arms as we near the front door and the strength of the breeze increases. I start to attempt unrolling my jeans. I hop and wobble closely behind Noah all the way to the front door. He stops at the end of the hallway where I lean on him and fix my jeans one last time. When I’m done, I lift my eyes to meet a pair I don’t want to be looking at right now. Her lips are pursed to a point, her eyebrows lifted, her arms are crossed and she’s leaning to one side.
Okay, I’ll admit… I can see how this looks bad! Noah is shirtless, I’m fixing my pants and now leaning on Noah for support. I quickly resort to my own balance.
“Um, who’s this?” Trisha says to Noah. She couldn’t even spare a hello? Loving the trust in this relationship!
“Hey to you too babe!” Noah leaves my side and joins hers. She hugs him and places her lips on his. He pulls back. “This is Mia.” Suddenly I remember that I’m not his girl anymore. I remember that things aren’t how they were and that she’s the reason I suffered/
“Oh Mia!” She says my name as if it’s a worse than a deadly plague. “I remember this story. How long is she staying?” Yeah, I’m not standing here or anything. Thank you very, very much for acknowledging my existence!
“Mia is staying until Monday. She’s here from last night until tomorrow night!” Noah answers, seemingly unimpressed with having to justify the situation to her.
“Why?” She gives me a dirty look. “I thought the two of you weren’t friends. I’m pretty sure it was because she got jealous of me, was it now?”
That’s it. She’s a cow and I already don’t like her. “Hi Trisha.” I say with attitude. “Yeah, I am standing right here, nice to meet you too! Um, yeah Noah and I had a fight, which had nothing to do with you directly. But who cares if we had a fight? That’s what friends do, they fight then they make up and it makes them stronger. What happened is a thing of the past. Don’t bring it up and try to start anything.”
I expect Noah to tell me off, but instead he has an impressed look on his face. Probably because Trisha doesn’t do well with not being the boss and I’m pretty sure she’s going to need some ice for that burn.
She semi-laughs, obviously unsure of how to react. “Well, he’s off limits, got it?”
“Loud and clear!” I reply.
As I walk away, I hear a mumble come from Trisha’s mouth. She doesn’t say it loud, but there is not a single part of me that believes she didn’t mean for me to hear it clearly. I roll my eyes and walk into the kitchen. I begin to mumble under my breath too.
“if she doesn’t that, I think I will throw a chair at her!” I utter.
I don’t realise that April is standing in the kitchen and overhears what I say.
