Chapter 30
Oliver exits the room, leaving me to listen to my own pulse thrusting my blood against my veins. I sigh, knowing I could whisk myself up to my bedroom and heal all my injuries. The only problem is that that might give me a mental block for a day or two. Illness is not a fun thing to heal; it steals a part of your brain for a limited amount of time such as- eyesight, hearing, speaking, walking, or your entire immune system. It's a very delicate process.
I sit alone for a while, closing my eyes and opening them again. My fingers drum my sides and the world seems to make music as birds chirp and feet cross outside in the hall. Not too long someone knocks at my door. Feeling like I should say something I open my mouth, but the door opens and I'm sitting there with my mouth agape.
"Hello Eris, I apologize for the inconveniences. We are still getting used to having such a unique... person... with us." The woman, a young nurse, strides to my side and feels my forehead. She writes something down on her clipboard and continues. "So...I was told, after you get better, that you would start your training."
I purse my lips, "Excuse me?" my throat is tight.
She shrugs, "It'll start as soon as you recover." She traces her hand along the paper on her clipboard and smiles, "Which will be tomorrow morning."
I want to ask her what kind of training I'll be put through but before I can form words she's gone: leaving me dumbfounded and slightly annoyed with the girls flighty nature.

Just as soon as I can stand my shoulders are clamped backwards and my spine cracks against the chain-link fence. I sucked in a breath only for it to be slammed out of my diaphragm. I cough, wanting to curl up on the floor- but hands hold me erect.
"That's enough."
The hands coil away and my body heaves forward, I was ready for a nice long bath in my room.
"Xander, get Eris a drink of water." My coach scorns as my eyes close and he catches my falling form. "You're going to need a lot of extra training Miss Meyer."
I grumble as we gradually fall to the floor, sitting on our knees. My coach, Coach "Rocky", clicks his tongue as he examines my face.
His fingers leave my cheek and he stands to take the cup of water from Xander.
"Why am I here?" I mumble. "Does my mother not want me?" My lips quiver an the numbing in my chest and face seeps away, leaving me with battered and raspy slaps.
"Drink." He brings the water to my lips, and as soon as it touches my tongue I begin to gag.
I shove the cup away and for the second time in my life, it tasted like red wine. I was sure this time it was clear water.
"Leave us. I'll take Eris back to her room." My eyes wander up, and through the chain link fence, I see Laurence piercing daggers at Xander.
