When Maysilee and Haymitch approached the square, they received their finger pricks, in order to verify their identities, after which they departed their seperate and wished each other good luck. Haymitch looked into the crowd of adults, elders, and young children, he spied Colin and Mother. Colin was clinging to mother's side, while she stroked his hair soothingly while taking in their surroundings. Interrupting his gaze, the annual destruction video of district 13 began playing on a gigantic screen for all the district to view. Haymitch found it utterly stupid that they never changed the video. Once the annual speech of justice and rightful ness of the games was over, peace keepers started to chat, 'who do you think will be chosen', the head peace keeper-Bruce asked, while another peace keeper smiled, saying he hoped someone good and bloodthirsty would be picked. Haymitch started to boil, who did they think they were?! Wagering over who would be chosen! Once they started sneering at one of the Boys beside him, snickering about how bone thin, ugly, he was, Haymitch turned around. 'Shut up, you'd be skinny too if you'd never had a good meal, praise the Capitol for their god damn hunger games' He yelled. The peace keepers stopped and sneered at him 'I hope you go to the hunger games,' one of them laughed while punching Haymitch hard in the face. He felt his nose bleed as he fell onto the pavement due to the surprise. No peace keeper had ever hit him before, this one had guts. He stood back up and drew back his fist in order to get back at that disturbed peace keeper. Then a Capitol man wi.th flaming red hair, and a nose piercing started to speak 'Hello Everyone! Welcome to the 50th annual hunger games, as you know this year is the year of the quarter quell, in which we Will choose twice as many tributes to represent each district because it is the second quarter quell!' He yelled with enthusiasm and smiles. No one breathed. Until someone screamed- And then another screamed-and another- until everyone started sobbing and screaming. It got so chaotic, that a gun was fired. No one spoke after that, 'Much better' said the man with the red hair, who he remembered his name was Claudius. Claudius continued,'Now for the drawing! He yelled, 'Ladies first!' Claudius laughed. He pulled a paper out of the girl's bowl and read the name 'Maysilee Donner!' Maysilee looked Suprised, but shockingly made her way up to the stage. She started to shake when Claudius offered her his hand. She shook and then stood on the stage, no one spoke, no one volunteered to take her place, she was going to the hunger Games. Haymitch could see strands of hair, falling loose from her braid, in that moment, she looked as fragile as a baby bird. 'Next, the boys!' Cladius said, he quickly pulled a paper out of the bowl and smiled happily, 'Ronald Lobe!'Haymitch didn't know who this kid was- he looked like a girl, with long hair, skinny legs, and a small face.. He felt bad for the kid though, because Ronald started to scream, when the peace keepers had to force him onto the stage. He yelled out to his father but there was no response. No one volunteered for him either. 'He's only 12..' Some of the elders murmured. 'Girls again!' Claudius laughed hysterically; while retrieving another paper. 'Lilya Kahn', now Haymitch knew Lilya.. He had to admit she was beautiful-even more beautiful then Lucy-his Lucy who was safe, who'd stay alive-with her deep brown eyes, and her white-blond hair. Haymitch looked to find her face, Lucy saw him to and smiled sadly. Then abruptedely her face changed with the new called name- a shriek escaped her throat, a peace keeper grabbed her and held a gun to her head. Then Haymitch, in utter horror screamed and felt Peace Keepers hauling him up to the stage.. Claudius smiled at Haymitch,' I called your name, but I think you were too busy looking at that girl of yours', Haymitch was horrified, he heard Colin scream 'no!', but it was too late. Lucy still struggled against the peace keeper, and his mother had collapsed in a heap, fainted. Haymitch cried out but a peace keeper grasped him tight and wouldn't let go.. Claudius smiled with triumph 'and there you have it the tributes of the 50th hunger games!' Many emotions washed over Haymitch in that moment, pain, loss, sadness, but mostly hopelessness. Always hopelessness.
