The crowd in front of the stadium, where the chariot parade would be held, was chaotic. As Haymitch and the other District 12 tributes passed the gates, in front of the stadium, they heard laughs, whistles, whispering, shouts, and screams. Many people laughed at the ugly, ancient coal miner's outfits they wore and a lot of others, shouted out how ridiculous they looked. Haymitch held back

the urge to hit them all. As they were paraded through the stadium, Haymitch saw millions of faces, watching their every move. The other District's outfits all seemed nicer, even District 8's bushy tree costumes. Haymitch sat beside Maysilee in the front of the carriage and Lilya and Ronald in the back. It was the first time Haymitch had ever seen Maysilee look frightened and nervous. He squeezed her hand friendly, which was shaking rapidly. She looked up at him for a moment, her red hair hanging in her eyes, and gave him a grateful smile. As that smile spread on her face, Haymitch was reminded of Lucy, and how her smiles were as beautiful as Maysilee's, with their straight, shiny teeth. Finally Haymitch let go, but Maysilee looked surprised when he did, almost as if she didnt want him to let go. There wasn't really much to the parade, after all the Districts were led through the stadium, Snakey President Snow, said a speech about how honoured he was, by their sacrifices. Not that we had the choice to sacrifice ourselves, thought Haymitch. Snow's dark brown hair, had been styled, next to perfection. And it looked as if his stomach was bloated and full. Haymitch wondered if snow ever thought about all the starving people in each district. After exiting the stadium, they were introduced to their mentor, Zale. 'hello', he'd said to them in a low voice. Zale's hair was raven black and fell well past his shoulders, the expression on his face said 'do i seriously have to mentor these losers?' His chin was up, and he had sarcasm all over him. Several greetings were uttered from the district 12 tributes. but Zale just frowned. He didnt give any advice, just frowned deeply before leaving the room. Haymitch felt anger ease its way inside him, at Zale for not caring. After this, all tributes made there way to their rooms except Maysilee and Haymitch. They tiptoed quietly up to the rooftop, when they were sure no one was awake. When they reached the roof, both of them sat down. 'Its beautiful up here, it's like we can see all of Panem!' Maysilee squealed quietly, while viewing the crowded city down bellow. Haymitch nodded, and then asked her a question that had been surfing his mind for a while,'Do you think you have a chance of winning..?' He asked quietly. She took a while to answer, twirling a red curl around her finger. Her eyes looked far away when she spoke, 'No I don't, I don't think I could ever take life from someone.. And that's almost inevitable if your out to win.' She looked at Haymitch thoughtfully,'I feel dissapointed that my life is going to end, but I'm trying to live it to the fullest while I still can'. Maysilee leaned into Haymitch, almost as if she was about to kiss him, but then she recoiled. Haymitch was startled by her words, and her actions. He wondered if he'd like to kiss Maysilee and then mentally shook his head, thinking of Lucy. They stared out at the city for a few more moments, and then decided to return to their seperate rooms. Haymitch thought of his family while awaiting sleep. Although he had vowed to let them go, it didnt seem that easy, especially when his mind was wondering before sleep. Had they eaten that night? We're they weaping at his absence? Had his mother lit a fire, so they could keep warm? He didn't know the answers to any of those questions. But he hoped they were safe, fed, and warm, far away from the Capitol.
