Chapter 5

As I unpack my bag I decide to call Hunter. Ever since we've started working together again things have been getting better between us. I don't want things to change. I know that this always ends badly but I've never stopped wanting it to work.

The phone rings a few times before he finally picks up. "Hey love," he says in that amazing British accent. " Did you make it to the tower?" "Yea it's amazing, the rooms are huge." I reply. "You sound upset, is something the matter?" He asks me in a concerned voice. "No, well yes I mean I won't really fit in here. Especially with Natasha, after what happened with Barton. I know she's over it and all but I still feel uneasy about it." I confess. "Everything is going to be fine. But I have a mission in about 15 minutes so I better go." "Don't die out there okay" I say. " I won't, I'll see you soon enjoy your time and try not to worry too much. Bye."

I press end call and lie down on my bed. Everything is going to be just fine, I tell myself. I look at the clock and notice it's almost 12:30, I decide to go ahead and go to the kitchen to see if anyone else is in there.

When I reach the living area I notice everyone is there but Maria. " where's Maria?" I ask. "Steve told her to call him when she got here, so she's talking to him, but you never know how long that will last" answers Natasha. "Let's go ahead and eat!" Pepper says.

As we eat we all talk and laugh, and I realize that maybe this week won't be so bad after all.

As I wait for Steve to answer my mind starts to wander to a conversation with Natasha a few weeks back.

"Maria I know you don't like to open up to people and you have your wall, but that wall may keep out pain, but it may also keep out love." I know she's right, but it's so hard for me, I mean I really like Steve but what if he doesn't feel the same way I do? Maybe if I weren't so damaged he would like me.

My thoughts are cut short when his face pops up on the screen in front of me. "Hi!" He says excitedly. "Calm down you only saw me a few hours ago." I reply, laughing. We talk for a while before I realize the others were probably waiting for me. "Steve the others are probably waiting for me o better go." "Okay well I'll see you in a week, have fun!" I hang up and walk to the door.

I enter the living room and see everyone had started eating already. "Nice of you to wait." I say sarcastically. "Well we were hungry and you were taking forever with your boyfriend so we started without you." Natasha answers, mouth full of food. I roll my eyes and grab a plate. "Wait, you have a boyfriend?" asks Skye. "No, but Agent Romanoff here refuses to believe otherwise."

"Okay so here's the plan for tonight. First, we are playing truth or dare." I say with blank face, but inside I'm so excited I had told Simmons to bring the truth serum. Tonight is going to be great!
