For some odd reason, Noah was finding it difficult to breathe. He was used to change, as it happened to him all the time; but the news had hit him so suddenly, so unexpectedly, that he could not quite believe it.

The boy finally got up after the words had completely sunk into his mind. I'm moving, he thought. Shouldn't I be happy? These words swirled through his brain until he realised it. He was scared. Scared of the fact that he may be passed on to another family who hated him just like the last, scared of having to make new friends at school.

School.

Hang on, he once again thought. School. I can get away from Billy the bully. Isn't this just great!

But even after those thoughts, he did not feel right. He was betrayed, as if he was gradually being torn apart bit by bit by the things people said to him and the thing they did, each word and action devouring his emotions and his soul.

He felt like all this anger and frustration needed to be let out, and soon, or else he would crumble.

Travelling upstairs with heavy feet and limbs, Noah perched himself on the edge of his bed. He needed to release all his negative emotions and become someone new. However, there was still something troubling him, hidden at the back of his mind.

The thought of him changing suddenly made him very anxious indeed. You see, everything around him was constantly changing, but he had never thought of making a difference to himself. He was worried that if he tried to fight these feelings, he would end up defeating himself, and forgetting who he really was.

Because as stupid as it sounded, Noah liked the way he was so vulnerable, and he did not want to let that go... otherwise he might lose himself in a different world, making the same old mistakes.

But it had to be done.

He looked around the room, until his eyes hit the old wooden box he had rearranged earlier. Maybe he did not realise it, but that cube object had a lot of power over him. It made him make decisions that, without the box existing, he would not make.

Today it made yet another decision for him.

Carefully lifting the box into his arms, he put on his navy blue coat after seeing the downfall of heavy rain outside his window. He went to the corner of the room and tipped a baby pink china pig upside down, which revealed around 20 coins and pennies. It was just under £10, but it would be enough for now.

He said goodbye to his room, although it did not mean much to him at all. Waving at the walls, Noah quietly slipped outside the door, and made his way downstairs. He headed straight for the front door, making sure to check that his parents did not notice him. Sure enough, they were watching some reality TV show, with Katrina knitting a jumper in the corner of the living room.

Without hesitation, the lonely boy slipped into the outside world, box under his arm, guarded from the rain. He was amazed at how easy his escape had been. And Noah finally felt free...

...For he had decided that he would not take any chances. He was too scared of another family, having to blend in to another school.

Just minutes ago, whilst he was in his room and staring at the box, it had told him something. It had told him to chase his dreams, set himself free. The box had saved him from years, maybe even a lifetime's worth of misery.

With a triumphant grin, he set off into the evening, excited for what the world had to offer.

He hadn't smiled like that in years.
