Hey guys. So now that I have laid the foundation for what's going on in the book, it's about to change..and really fast.
Not only is shit about to get real and start moving, but also the structure is changing too. Notice how in the previous chapters, the POV went back and forth between Meek and Nicki all in one chapter...well that was just so you guys could get an inside look on how they felt about each other. Now, the POVs won't switch. The chapter will either be all Meek's, all Nicki's, or a narrator's POV. But don't worry, I'll let you know in the beginning of the update who's perspective it will be from.
This chapter will be from the narrator's POV ....enjoy babies
Meek pulled his black matted Maybach up to the cemetery. It had been a long time since Meek visited his dad, and he knew today was long overdue. He sat in his car for a moment to gather his thoughts. He got out the car and walked to the back seat and grabbed a bag and his sleeping daughter, Raelyn, walking towards the large monument that was his father's tombstone. He pulled a blanket out of the bag and laid Raelyn down before he kissed her sleeping cheek. He put his hand on the tombstone and leaned into the large marble with his head down. A spectrum of emotions shot through his body as he reread the engraved inscription:
"Robert Parker. Beloved Husband, Father, and Leader"
He ran his hand over his face as he tried to contain the sorrow that took over him. He felt guilty that he hadn't been here since when Raelyn was about one or so years old. The love and connection he had with his father was strong and it transcended past his death, but for some reason, Meek slacked on visiting him. When he first died, Meek was there almost every day. His dad was one of the biggest drug pins in Philly...the head of the Cartel. He was highly respected and the Williams name was like royalty, so when he was murdered, the entire city was shocked. There was speculation that he was killed by the Russians who he did business with sometimes, but then there were rumors that it could have also been the Haitians. There was even a rumor that believed that Robert's murder was more personal than business, but no one really knew. His family and workers tried to find his killer but after years of nothing they slowly started to let go of avenging his death and getting revenge.
Meek: "I know that you know I am here. I don't even know why it has been so long and I'm sorry Pops. For so long, I was so angry for what people did to you that it was hard to talk about your death, let alone be called by my first name, Robert. But today, I officially let go of that anger dad. Though I can't find the motherfuckas that was responsible, I made a promise to myself once I got older that I wouldn't let anyone else hurt the family anymore. I did it...I'm doing good for myself old man, you'd be proud. There is one thing though; Uncle Dwight, the one who has been running the cartel since you passed...well, he had a heart attack last week and died. The whole Philly want me to take his place since I was your son and it's a family business. I don't know what to do." Meek started to tear up. "I want to run the business for your legacy, but the drug business is sticky. Niggas either end up in jail or dead. When I went to jail at 22 for having that gun, I said I wasn't going to put myself there again. Raelyn is just four, almost five, and she needs me, but I need to make sure the legacy that you fought for with your life remains in tact. And I got a girl. She beautiful and I know you would have loved her...I love her. She don't need someone who is always out in the streets. I'm stuck Pop, which is why I came. I know you'll set a nigga straight on what to do. I love you."
Meek sat down next to Raelyn and woke her up.
Meek: "Wake up princess."
Raelyn began to stir and her beautiful, chocolate eyes fluttered open.
Raelyn: "Hey daddy."
Meek: "Remember Pop Pop whose pictures I show you all the time?" She nodded. "Well baby, this is where he sleeps forever. I brought you here when you were very little, but I wanted to bring you back. You can talk to him Rae, but for a while, he may not answer back, but he's here and he loves you so much. You look just like him."
