I woke up in a hospital room. I squinted and sat up slowly, noticing something weghing down my right arm. I looked down and saw a lime green cast from my hand to elbow.
"Hey! You're awake. My name's Barbara, I have been your doctory for today. Your friend has told me you had gotten pushed while playing volleyball. Is this correct?"
"Yes."
"Well, your arm, your radius to be exact, is broken. You'll have to wear that cast for about 6 weeks. I'll get you some prescriptions for pain medication and let everyone know you're awake."
She walked out and Todd poked his head in.
"How are you feeling?"
"Tired, my arm's a little sore but I'm okay."
He smiled a little and stroked my cheek. At that moment Mrs. and Mr. Jones walked in making Todd drop his hand.
"Oh, honey! How are you feeling?"
"Okay, I'm okay." I squeaked as Mrs. Jones enveloped me in a hug. She pulled away and looked at Todd. She grabbed his hand with both of hers and looked him in the eye.
"Thank you so much for taking care of Annalise. I'm afraid we didn't catch your name though."
"It was really no problem. And the name's Todd."
"Oh! Is he the same Todd that you hung out with yesterday 'Lise?"
"Yeah."
"Oh, how sweet!" She turned back to Todd.
"She was so happy last night when she got home. She's been so down lately."
I blushed for the millionth time today. Just when I thought it couldn't get any worse, things took a dive. Mr. Jone's cleared his throat.
"I'm not sure, uh, how involved your relationship is but..." he looked at Todd sternly. "I want no babies popping out."
"Mr. Jones!"
I covered my face out of pure embarrassment. Where the hell was that doctor? She finally came in, breaking the awkward silence and handing me my prescriptions.
"Here you are dear, just take them when you need them, follow the directions. You have a check up in 3 weeks. You're good to go. Take care."
Everyone thanked her as she walked out of the room.
"I'll give you two a few minutes to say goodbye."
Mrs. Jones attempted a wink but made it totally obvious as she dragged Mr. Jones out of the room. I smiled at Todd who returned it.
"You never told me what happened to your eye."
He sighed.
"What's your cell number I'll call you, or text you."
"363-5595"
"Alrighty"
He bent down and kissed my forehead.
"Be careful Annalise, please."
With that he walked out. I stood up and met Mrs. and Mr. Jones in the waiting room. I pulled my cell out of my pocket while we got into the car. I soon got a text message from an unknown number. I flipped my phone open (yes, I'm old school).
->Hey 'Lise, it's Todd.
< -Hey
->So I don't weant you to think differently of me but here it goes. My step dad beats me-so he won't hurt my mother.
< -Omg...really?
->...yeah.
< -Todd, I'm so sorry. Does your mother know?? You have to do something about this.
->She knows but no. You can't tell anybody at all. It will just get worse.
< -Why doesn't she leave him?
->She says she doesn't want to end up in another divorce. She can't afford it.
< -I'm really sorry.
->Is it your fault? Do you beat me?
< -No, but...
->Alright then. I don't want anyone's pity. Nothing I can't handle. Plus, I'd like it if you'd beat me. Kinky ;)
< -Uhhh.....freak!
->lol. You home yet?
< -Almost
->Mrs. Jones seems cool.
< -Yeah she's the best.
We continued texting until I was falling asleep in my bed.
< -I'm going to fall asleep on you
->lol. that's alright. Go to sleep 'Lisey."
< -Lisey?
->My new nickname for you
< -hmm
->Night 'Lisey, my little 'Lisey.
With the question of "what did he mean by 'my little 'Lisey' floating in my mind, I fell asleep.
