Chapter Two
When we finally arrived at the shopping mall, the car park was basically deserted probably because it was only nine thirty on a Monday morning. Getting out of the cab of the truck I was immediately sweating from the suns heat. What the hell was up with this weather cold one minute hot the next. Ripping my jacket off my body, I threw it in the back seat. I leant back into the car saying to Flynn "You can come pick me up in about an hour, just text me when you get here."
"Ok see you then.' Flynn replied.
I spent a large amount of time gathering everything to restock our kitchen with, finally finishing at around ten thirty with a trolley pack full of food. I checked my phone to see if Flynn had texted me yet but my message box was empty, so I stopped by a small coffee shop.
Sitting down at a table by a window after ordering ham and cheese croissants with coffee. I pulled out a novel from my hand bag and opened it up to the page last read. Before I had even read a paragraph I heard the sound of the footsteps approaching me, I figured it was just the waitress. But as I looked up from my book I instead saw the brightest green eyes staring right at me.
"May I sit, we're the only ones here so we might as well sit together." I honed in on his luscious lips as they formed each word.
"Yeah sure, h...have a seat." I barely managed to get the words out without completely looking like a loser. He sat down in the seat across from me staring the whole time. I looked him over trying not be too obvious. His eyes were the first thing I noticed, they were a bright green like the colour of grass after It had just rained. His hair was a dark brown and looked like he had just rolled out of bed, his face was angular with stubble to add to the sexiness level. He also had on a pair of faded blue jeans on and a plain black tee.
After I had finished checking him out I realised this was like the first time I had actually talked to a guy and a hot guy at that. In the years before I had been too busy trying not to get killed to focus on guys so I had no experience what so ever.
"Oh my name is Colton Reid by the way." Colton said looking up from the menu he was studying. "But you can call me Col, everybody does
"Nice to meet you, I'm Trixie Sparrow" I replied.
"Nice to meet you too, I haven't seen you around, are you new here?"
"Yeah moved here about a week ago, just had to come in get some groceries." I pointed to the shopping trolley full to the top with food.
"Yeah I can see that, I just needed to get out the house you know away from the parents."
"Yeah I definitely understand that." I said thinking about dad locking himself in the training room.
We sat there across from each other for a while just talking about random topics until my phone vibrated telling me I had message. "Sorry." I said checking my phone. It was a text from Flynn saying he was waiting in the parking lot.
"Sorry but I have to go, my brother is waiting for me in the parking lot." I said.
"Its fine and I hope to see you around sometime soon." Oh my God, I wasn't such a complete loser after all, or he was just being polite.
"You too." I stammered out before getting my shopping trolley and hurrying towards the parking lot.
***
After loading up the back of the truck with groceries I hopped up into the cab of his truck and I felt the throb of an oncoming headache. After the accident they were constant sometimes getting them every day. But as time went by I only got migraines if I was lucky once a week. Doctors said they were just a side effect from my head trauma, but let me tell you they were a bitch of a side effect.
I rested my head against the head rest in the car and closed my eyes to see if the pain would ease. I felt the hum of the engine vibrating through the seats and the car lurch forward as we exited the car park. Flynn rested his hand on my forearm in a sign of concern, asking me silently if I was ok.
I opened my eyes and looked over to Flynn to answer him. "I'll be fine" I said, "It's just a small one, I can deal." Closing my eyes again I settled in for the drive wincing at times as the headache slowly turned into a migraine.
By the time we pulled into our driveway the pain in my head was at its worst, my vision swimming. After a few failed attempts I managed to get the car door open, swinging my legs out to land on the ground. I stood up managing to hold up my body for all about three seconds before my knees gave way. I put my hands out to break my fall, but before I even hit the ground Flynn caught me and swept me into his arms.
He held me looking down at me with concern written all over his face and walked up to the front door managing to open it with one hand. Walking me into the lounge room the sun hit my face causing me to wince as my eyes instantly started to water. Flynn softly set me down on the closest sofa pulling a throw blanket over me from the bottom of the sofa and closed the curtains.
"I'll be back with Dad, just hold on." Flynn said as he left through the doorway. I never liked being left alone when the painful ones hit, that was when the voices started up. Not long after Flynn had left I heard the delicate voice of a women whispering.
"Help us," she pleaded. "We can't get through, help us."
They weren't real, I told myself, they were voices in my head because I was in pain. They are not real. They are not real. They are not real. I repeated it over and over in my head as the voices grew louder with every word. Finally Flynn returned with dad on his heels, I silently prayed as the voices stopped instantly.
"Hey sweetie, how bad is it this time?" dad asked with concern traveling through his voice. I held up my fingers making eight in total. Dad nodded and pulled out a bottle of, clear or blue or red I really couldn't tell, liquid.
"I'm going to give you something that will knock you out so you can get some rest." He said whilst pouring the liquid into a measuring spoon and held it up to my lips. I parted them and felt the warm liquid travel down my throat. Almost immediately darkness clouded my image of Flynn and dad. The waves of sleep rolling over me pulling me deeper and deeper until finally I surrendered and submerged into the darkness. The last thing I remember was the feel of dad's lips as he kissed my forehead, he had done that when I was younger but had stopped thinking I was old enough to comfort myself. The touch was reassuring as I fell into a dream state.
