Chapter Nine
I sat awkwardly in the back seat of the car watching curiously as col greeted his two Friends, Dominic and Kyra. It was a short drive to the school leaving very little time for formal greetings. Once they had finished their good mornings and fist bumps all the attention turned to me but the car had already come to a stop.
We all pilled out of the car and made our way to the school. Kyra and Dominic took the lead and I stayed beside Col, glad I had someone I was familiar with.
“You know, you can talk they won’t bite you.” Col nudged me and smirked at my odd behaviour.
“I don’t do well with other people, mainly because I don’t like other people.” My voice was strained as I forced out an explanation.
I heard Col laugh and I looked over at him curiously. Once he got over his episode he shook his head and gestured to Kyra.
“With that attitude you’ll definitely become friends with Kyra.” I looked over at his friends taking note of their appearances.
Their hair was a complete contrast against each other, his striking blonde short cut hair and her auburn short locks. They looked like a poster couple as they talked causally and kept light contact with their hands.
“Are they…” I didn't want to complete my sentence in case I offended them.
“Together? No they refuse to admit their feelings for each other, which is super annoying but if I even mention it they practically rip me to pieces.” He laughed again, probably reminiscing in fond memories; his happy demeanor eventually wore off as he turned his head towards me, “What happened before at your house? When I walked in I heard you crying and I swear I saw shattered glass as I went pass the stairwell”.
I was taken aback by his question. It was a sudden change in the conversation and it took me a second to focus on the topic.
I sighed deeply and then gave him a brief overview of what had happened. And as I retold the story my mind drifted towards the bathroom making me relive every second of fear I had experienced. By the time I had finished I was ashamed to find that tears had leaked out of my eyes.
“Hey,” I felt Col wipe the delicate skin under my eyes and then wrap me in his arms. “It’s okay, you’re safe now.”
We stayed there for a while just holding each other, it felt nice almost natural. We finally broke apart when we realised that Dominic and Kyra were waiting for us at the front doors of the school. I blushed as I realised that they had just seen our intimate hug.
We walked over to them and slowly made our way to our lockers. Somehow all our lockers seemed to be placed in the same corridor so it made our trip to get our books less time consuming.
As we started walking to our classes Kyra smoothly slid in between Col and me. He just shrugged, probably used to her behaviour, and started talking to Dominic.
“You’re a spirit elemental right.” She had a hint of excitement in her voice. And her public announcement of the secret society of the elementals had me taken aback as well.
She recognised the look on my face and went on to explain herself.
“Don’t worry, whenever we talk about it people just think that we’re some crazy fan girls and they don’t bother us.” We stopped in front of an empty classroom that I’m guessing was her first class, “and I might not have your particular element but I’ve heard stories and heard it can be hell, just know that even though we only just met, you can talk to me if you need to.”
At that comment I instantly felt at home and i felt that I could possibly think about living here until I graduated. Maybe it is possible for me to live a normal life and make friends.
