Chapter Eight
I woke up on the couch with my limbs splayed out around me. I vaguely remember sitting down to watch TV last night before passing out from exhaustion. The television was off now and I had a blanket laying over my legs. My best guess would be that Flynn had done it on his way to bed.
My eyes were still heavy, I blinked a few times before I could get the hazy dream like state to go away. The sun was shining through the window making a patch of sunlight right over my legs making them toasty warm. I reluctantly rolled over turning towards the sunlight still slightly groggy. The tightness on my hip reminding me of the events from yesterday.
My phone had fallen out of my hand while I had slept and was now lying on the ground flashing with a text message. I picked it up and checked the time, it read 6:00. I still had an hour before I had to leave, that gave me plenty of time to get ready.
The text message wasn't registered in my contacts and just came up as a random number. I read it anyways.
Hey it's Col. Pinched your number from your phone yesterday, hope you don't mind J
I smiled and texted back.
You better not have stolen anything else from my room. Remember I own a knife.
While I waited for him to text back I got up and headed to the kitchen. The flooring was freezing against my bare feet. As I started pouring my cereal I heard the tone of my phone notifying me that Col had texted me back. I opened it up after finishing pouring my cereal.
I'll keep that in mind
Just as I was about to reply another text message popped up underneath the last one.
BTW I want you to meet my friends before school so I'll pick you up in about an hour, don't worry they're nice.
Met his friends? The thought of talking to complete strangers terrified me. Although I had managed to attract Col's attention with my weirdness, I'm not sure if anyone else would find it intriguing enough to put up with me. I tried to stay optimistic as I replied to Col before gulping down my breakfast.
As I was padded up the stairs I heard the creak of Flynn's bedroom door opening. Once I had reached the top of the stairs I saw his mess of hair and wrinkled clothes indicating that he had just woken up. He mumbled something of a good morning before brushing past me to get some breakfast from the kitchen. I laughed inwardly at his groggy state and decided I would talk to him later when he had a cup of coffee in his system.
Fortunately, that left the shower all to me. The warm water washed over my back and neck easing my muscles making me completely at ease and able to concentrate on my own thoughts. To be honest I loved my showers and had a habit of spending away too much time under the water than necessary. Today was no exception of my bad habits.
Although Col had said not to take the necklace off it had felt weird wearing it in the shower so it now rested beside the sink.
Just as I finished washing the soapy lather off my body, the water temperature turned freezing and I jumped back in shock with a gasp. Along with the temperature shock came the strange feeling of someone watching. The hair on the back of my neck was standing on end and my muscles tensed building up for a fight. I felt vulnerable standing here completely naked so I quickly washed off the remaining soap off before I stepped out and wrapped a towel around me.
I was drying off my hair with another towel when I felt bolt of pain shoot through my head. I scrunched my face up in pain until the wave passed. I got a few seconds of release until another wave of pain hit me again and again. I doubled over clutching my head between my hands as the pressure built up behind my scull. As the pain got worse I tumbled to the ground cracking my head against the floor. It felt like a bomb was going off inside my head turning my brain into a puddle of goo. My mouth dried out as I screamed out of utter terror.
