Chapter Five
Col didn't take long to come back from signing us out. With a quick greeting he started the car and drove out of the student car park. It was sweet that he was driving me home but I was just becoming aware that we were going in the opposite direction to my house.
"Umm, where are we going, by the way?" Even though I had only been here for a few weeks I knew my way around the general area and this was definitely not my street.
"There's a park a few streets over, that way we can have a little bit more privacy than at the school so we can talk freely. Hardly anyone will be out at this time." Slightly bizarre but still understandable. I decided to go along with it but staying on alert for anything suspicious. Hopefully all he wanted to do was talk otherwise I would kick his ass no matter how sweet he was.
We sat in silence for a few minutes listening the soft sound of music streaming from the radio. It wasn't exactly awkward but I could feel a bit of tension in the air, like Col wanted to say something but just wouldn't.
"Can I ask a question?" the necklace resting just inside my top was still nagging at my consciousness.
"Shoot" he seemed slightly grateful that I had decided to start the conversation rather than him.
"Okay, the necklace. What is it exactly and how did it stop my head ache." I was trying to keep calm even though it seemed just a little crazy.
"Well the symbol on the necklace is Japanese calligraphy for the spirit of a warrior or technically the element spirit." He glanced at me for a second checking that I was understanding what he was saying before looking back to the road. "When I put your blood on it, it came to life and tapped into your soul."
"It came to life? Tapped into my soul? Please explain because that just doesn't cut it." He looked over at me again seeing the determination on my face knowing I wasn't going to back down until I got all the details. He sighed then pulled over on the side of the road, letting the cars behind us pass by.
"Okay, there is one thing you need to know before we start this conversation. I am not completely human and so are you." He hesitated as the expression on my face completely changed resembling the look you give a small child when they talk about a crazy dream they had. "Bear with me, please just let me finish talking then you can either let me show you some proof or you can run for the hills."
It was the only way to find out how that necklace worked and my curiosity was too much to handle right now. I nodded showing him that I was ready to listen.
"I am what we like to call an elemental, someone who can control the natural elements around me. Such as earth, water, fire and air. Each person can only control one of those elements that usually gets passed down through the family. Such as if I had a brother he would only be able to control earth like me. You with me?" I gave him the thumbs up. The way he was saying it, like he completely believed what he telling me, was starting to wear off on me. My mind pestering me to believe what he was saying.
"Some elementals are stronger than others, it just depends who their descendants are. Usually the earlier you develop your powers the stronger you become. I got mine about a year ago, my power has been growing since but annoyingly slow."
Just as he finished the sentence he turned the car on, switching on the indicator to turn back into the traffic. It was a quick drive to the park two streets over. What he had said was confusing not because he hadn't given much information at all just the whole concept was bizarre. My opinion was that his mind wasn't completely all there. Col pulled the car into the empty car park next to a few mini vans. He turned off the engine and hopped out of the car.
