Pasting Me In, Just To Cut Me Out

We gathered around Stacey the next morning, fearing the news yet eager to hear it at the same time. She had a solemn expression on her young face, and she turned and led us down several hallways, presumably to his room. At least we knew she wasn't taking us to a morgue.

'We've stabilised him, and you guys are very lucky. I'm not going to lie to you. He could have died.' Stacey said as she walked briskly to a door about halfway down the hall. 'He's got a private room at the moment, so if you would like to visit him two at a time that would be fine.'

'What happened?' I asked, moving my hair out of my face and under my beanie. I slipped my hand into Kellin's, squeezing gently.

'When Kyle fell off the stage, he hit his spine. He hit it in his thoraric - or middle - section of his spine. He may become a paraplegic, so we just want to put him in physiotherapy to try and regain as much control as possible. Please don't overwhelm him, he's just come out of his drug-induced state.' Stacey smiled kindly at us all.

Justin and Jack went in to see Kyle first, while Kellin and I hugged Gabe and Jesse, revelling in the fact that he was okay; he wasn't dead. Justin and Jack emerged a few minutes later, telling us that they were off to get a coffee for all of us. Gabe and Jesse went in, and Kellin and I stood next to each other, holding each others hands. I leant against the wall and closed my eyes. It had been a long, hectic night.

'Come on, we're next in.' Kellin tugged on my hand, leading me into the room.

Kyle was laying on the hospital bed, looking worn out.

'Hi guys,' he greeted us, smiling tiredly.

'We won't keep you awake long, we just wanted to see how you were.' Kellin said, sitting next to his head on the chair that ha been provided. He moved Kyle's hair out of his face and offered him the glass of water that was on his nightstand. Kyle gratefully accepted and we helped him sit up, supporting him as he drank, and lowering him back down.

'It's so weird... Not having the use of my legs.' Kyle stated, looking down at the rendered useless limbs. 'Not even being able to feel that much. I can't feel the sheets, but as soon as,' Kyle placed a hand on his leg, pressing down, 'I do that, I can feel something.' He looked up at us. 'It's a dreadful feeling.'

'Stacey said that they're going to put you into physiotherapy so that you can try and regain maximum use of your legs.' I said, trying to comfort him. Kyle looked up and smiled.

'I can't wait to start then.' He yawned widely, covering his mouth.

'We'll leave you now. Get some rest.' Kellin said, leading me out.

'Bye.' Kyle said, closing his eyes.
